Urban Exploration in an abandoned old hospital!!

in WORLD OF XPILAR3 years ago

Hello friends of the world of xpilar community, welcome to another post of mine. This time I will take you with me, to the urban exploration I did yesterday in an old abandoned hospital. Urban exploration is one of my favorite hobbies but unfortunately, I very rarely find an old building accesible, to be able to explore and capture pictures of the interior. Thankfully this time I got lucky and the old hospital which I saw on Instagram, was reachable from a variety of entrances.

The name of the old hospital is NIEN or Merchant Marine Nursing Institution. It operated between 1948 and 1975 and it is located at Melissia in Athens in a 116-acre pine forest. In 1975, the hospital closed to make some necessary repairs and never opened again. In 1981, repairs were abandoned and since then the building simply exists without serving any specific purpose. Now its main guests are young graffiti artists, groups of teenagers with beers in hand, Urban explorers, and people who walk their dog.

The interior of the hospital was a mixture of ruins that sometimes looked alike to each other. There were some rooms that more or less you could understand what their previous use was. Some were toilets, others patient rooms, others doctors' offices, others as a secretariat and some other completely incomprehensibly structured spaces. Perhaps the most striking piece of all was a small church in a corner of the ground floor. When man abandons something, God necessarily abandons it as well.

In any case, 40 years since its abandonment, the operation of this almost 12,000 sq.m. building has changed. Graffiti can be seen on almost every wall, even on the 4th and 5th floors of the hospital. Some of them are very impressive some just messy signatures of those who want to contribute to the lack of meaning of the building.

On the floor, there is dust, debris, and some plants that you have no idea where they came from or how the heck they sprouted in the cement.

The old hospital had all the elements that give a metaphysical feel. It is a huge deserted place that was once full of life but now you know when you pass any of its entrances, that you are alone in a space of thousands of square meters. Even if it does not have any elementary story to accompany its existence. Hospital stories are usually scary but not haunting. Stories of scared people, who hoped, who were anxious, who were relieved. All this, after all, makes you feel like a hospital.

Entering the interior of the hospital, Even if you do not believe in any of these types of metaphysical -let's say- suspicions, you suggest yourself do it. You feel like you are touring a city of the dead. The fact that we are talking about a hospital, a place that is in any way connected to the battle of life and death has its significance. Every time I passed between the corridors it was like I was walking in the same space before it was abandoned.

It's a shame that a hospital building of this size is no longer used, but I am amazed by the results of the paintings on the walls of this hospital, what an extraordinary work of art, of course people who have great talent can make it, and I read the story from the post. This friend seems scary, I like to read it, thank you for sharing, always success for you.

Hello, @lensa-macro. Unfortunately in my country, there are thousands of big old buildings which are empty and no ones use them.
I also liked the graffities but not all of them.
Thanks for replying wish you success too!!

These are very interesting pictures. It is unfortunate that buildings such as this can not be refurbished for other uses. For example, this building could be made into apartments for people who have low incomes.

Unfortunately there are many empty buildings like this in Athens. At least the youth uses them to express themselves through graffiti. Thanks for your comment!!

These walls could be more useful if used for their intended purpose. Not the most pleasant feeling from visiting this place, even if it is a virtual walk.
And the post turned out to be interesting, thanks.

For me all these old buildings are very interesting. I love to visit them and capture photos. When I am there I feel that I am in another era!!
Thanks for your comment.

Such places have different energies. Some of them are better not to visit at all. But it's all individually

Most of the time, at these places, there are teenagers who are chilling around. The youth always have good energy, and they transmit it to the building through their voices, laughs and their art on the frayed walls.
