Wood Burned Art: Tolkien Dragons (Club100)
Hey everyone. Before getting to the art, we have to get the bad news out of the way. If you've followed the last few posts we've made, you know someone close to us (our roommate's father, whom @jae5086 considers his "second father") has been dealing with health issues related to cancer. He completed a couple months of radiation and chemo then successfully had surgery at the beginning of this year to remove the tumors.
It was later found that there was a leak from the implant, so he had to undergo another quick procedure to correct that. Earlier this week, he found himself once again in the hospital, this time to have a feeding tube installed because he couldn't eat enough to regain his strength. He had been recovering the last several days and was expected to be released this weekend. Then, yesterday morning he developed a high fever and was transferred to the intensive care unit.
Last night, we got the terrible news that he wouldn't live through the night and that his family was on the way to say their final goodbyes. We are still waiting on an update and hold a tiny bit of hope that perhaps the doctors were wrong and he can recover but the reality is more likely that a great guy is gone and we'll never get to say goodbye. Our hearts are heavy this weekend.
Sorry for the negativity/sadness to start the weekend out, but it's cathartic to say it "aloud" in this format.
As for the art, these are some dragon pieces I made late last year. Each has my favorite Tolkien quote...
It simply isn't an adventure worth telling if their aren't any dragons.
I often use white colored pencil for highlights but here I am making an outline prior to applying adhesive for the foil I've been using constantly (don't judge me, I enjoy working with it). On one of these pieces, I got particularly bold and mixed a bunch of foil together for a pretty motley blend. More recently I've been working on a lot of jackalope and wolpertinger pieces because of the "Year of the Rabbit".
Thanks for stopping by and listening to our sad story. Oh, and checking out the art too. Hopefully you all have a great weekend. Be sure to spend some time with a loved one and let them know that you love them. Our time is preciously short. Don't waste it.

Thanks fiji, though I feel this is nothing compared to most of the dragon-oriented art I've done.
