EXHIBITION CAN TIXEDO. LITERARY CONTEST 2010. IBIZA.

today I want to share with you the event that took place back in 2010.
I exhibited in my usual favourite Art Cafe in Ibiza and this time I had the idea of making a Literary Contest.
I had been talking with friends and it seemed like always people had stories to tell about my paintings that were quite different to the ones I had. So this time we decided to not name any of the paintings and just give them a number. People had a few weeks to go there and have a coffee or whatever and write about a painting.

The Romanie Literary Contest 2010

The artist Romanie Sanchez is holding a literary contest to mark the exhibition of her paintings which will take place between 21st May and 3rd June 2010 in Can Tixedó, Buscastell. Romanie wishes to gather the impressions her work makes on the contestants through written texts. The winner will be prized a painting worth €400.

CONDITIONS

Anyone can take part without age limit.

The texts can be written in prose or poetry, in Spanish, Catalan or English.

The texts should be a minimum of 4 lines and a maximium of 4 pages, printed or hand-written in capitals.

The texts should be about the any of the paintings exhibited by Romanie in Can Tixedó between 21st May and 3rd June 2010.

They should capture what the chosen work inspires in the writer, rather than trying to be an interpretation of what the painter wished to express.

Each contestant can present up to three texts. If a contestant presents more than one text they should be presented separately in different envelopes and under different pseudonyms.

Each text must correspond to one of the exhibited paintings. The connection will be indicated by writing the number of the painting at the end of the text using the formula, PAINTING NUMBER X.

The delivered texts will be judged for their originality and content before style.

There must be a minimum of 10 texts for the contest to be valid.

The artist will be the judge and she reserves the right to declare the contest void if none of the texts are relevant to her.

Each text must be identified with a pseudonym written on the back of the text, no other name, signature or data that could identify the author. It shall be preseented in a white envelope which shall be posted in a box left for this purpose in Can Tixedo (don't write anything on the envelope containing the text).

There should be a second envelope, on which is written the same pseudonym used for the text, which this time is written on the outside of the envelope. The name, D.N.I., telephone number, e mail address and pseudonym should be inside this second envelope, which should also be posted in the box at Can Tixedó.

The texts can be posted from 21st May until 3rd June 2010 at 10p.m. (Can Tixedó is closed on Mondays)

On Tuesday 8th June at 9.30p.m. the envelope with the pseudonym corresponding to the winning text will be opened at Can Tixedó and the prize will be presented there and then.

If the winner isn't present at the prize-giving, they will be contacted by telephone, or failing that by e mail.

The winner should bring their D.N.I. to indentify him/herself and has till june 15th to claim the prize from Can Tixedó.

All the submitted texts will form part of an internet blog linked to the web page www.romanie.net. The painter will contact each of the authors of the texts by e mail to know if each wants their text to be featured under their actual name or pseudonym.

THE PRIZE

There will be only one prize. The prize will be a painting by Romanie worth 400€. The winner can choose a painting from a selection which will be on show alongside the exhibition.

So, the participation was much higher than I expected and choosing a winner was hard because I was taken in by quite a few. So I came up with the idea of printing a copy of the painting they wrote about as a runner up prize, so tht was a surprise for the day the winner was made public. I didn´t know who the winner was until the name was revealed to me. It was such a surprise!

The reason I´m looking back into this event is that I´m working on making an exhibition this fall at the end of October in Can Tixedó and I think I´d love to do a Literary Contest again. It´s been 11 years since I did it and I think I might get a different kind of participation.
So, working on my next exhibition, trying to finish the painting I started 4 years ago.
