Sunday Market

in WORLD OF XPILAR2 years ago

This Sunday I got up surprisingly early and headed to the South East part of my city, London, to visit a pop up market celebrating local produce.

We meant to grab some food, hot dogs or wood fired pizzas and then browse the market stalls.

However the savoury hot food sold out even before half twelve so we got nothing to eat. We were told that this is the first event of the kind held here by Lesnes Abbey for a good few months so I guess the producers had no clue how many people will actually turn up.

We did get a nice organic spiced cider though. It was hot and sharp and made the perfect start to a guided walk around the abbey ruins and then the woods.

Outside the abbey ruins this massive mulberry tree, certainly prettier later in the year when not so leafless, caught my eye.

This black mulberry tree is a descendant of the trees King James I planted.

He planted 10,000 mulberry trees and seriously intended to start England’s silk production.

Unfortunately he bought the wrong sort of tree though, black instead of the white mulberry which leaves silk worms actually feed on day and night, producing a sound similar to rain.

Hello friend, interesting post. How unfortunate that the food ran out before they could eat. The place looks very beautiful, what an interesting story about the moray eel tree, thank you very much for sharing!

Hai kakak selamat malam 👋🏻
