Heterosis 2023

Heterosis is a flower hybridisation experience inspired by Tulip Mania. I believe some of the readers know that this is when tulips became crazy popular and caused the first speculative bubble.

The contributors digitally cultivated their unique animated flowers. The collection of dynamic NFTs combines genetic algorithms with blockchain technology to facilitate the hybridisation of digital blossoms.

Collectors become growers and artists, creating magnificent tropical blooms. Each token works as a tulip bulb which has its own code and algorithm.

Hybridisation occurs when the digital code of one flower is combined with the code of another. From this union, a hybrid blossoms, based on attributes from both parents. Sounds familiar and makes sense, doesn’t it?

Then the brand new flower may also inherit invisible genes which contribute to the blossom’s rarity that will potentially increase its market value.

Each flower featured in this digital installation here in London also has a unique title. All titles have been generated by artificial intelligence based on Jorge Borges’ story The Library of Babel. It predicts artificial intelligence, features an infinite library and evokes analogies with genetic codes.

All these digital flowers some of which I photoed and shared here have been created in collaboration with Danil Krivoruchko. They were then produced by El-Gabal and Snark.art on the 0G.art platform.
