Maggie’s is my favourite fish and chip shop here in the Old Town of Hastings, England. I remember I recommended it to @the-gorilla last year. So we just ate here again and it is still as fantastic as I remember it.
Fish and chips.
Haddock was over when we arrived to dine here but there was dab. So we both went for it as we wanted to try something a bit different compared to the usual cod. The dab came with chips as expected and we got tomato and tartare sauce too.
I love that there are fresh cut flowers at the tables which are even in my favourite colour, pink. Scented tipsy plum candles add to the cosy and even romantic atmosphere.
The fish and chip shop is on the Old Town and you can even spare some change to arrive in style on one of the miniature steam trains.
The restaurant is in one of the tall black wooden huts where fishermen in the olden days used to store their fishing nets and ropes in. Back in the days they were made from pure organic materials and would simply rot if left outside. In Victorian times the sea came really close to the cliff here and the sheds were given just a little bit of space but were allowed to be on several floors. Some huts even have cellars.
So you are dining in an authentic building too with a sea view of the Old Town Harbour. The food and drinks came quite quick. Fish and chips here for two with a bottle of French rose cost £39.
If you are not full, I totally recommend getting a knickerbocker glory for pudding. It is fantastic and lots of it too so some might even consider sharing it with someone special.
The staff are attentive and even took photos of us. Don’t forget to grab one of their cards on the way out featuring a picture map of Maggie’s right here in the Old Town of Hastings.

The place looks very authentic. I love it. However, I was more interested in the card they gave than the food. It's a cute gift🙃
Fair enough. It is great that they have something for everybody @ozenozge I bet you would have enjoyed the sea view here too. The deep-fried fish and chips certainly isn't the healthiest of meals but it does taste much better by the sea and it is something hard to resist. Cheers and see you around.
In Russia there is an expression - fish does not walk on land.
This is what they say when they make fish soup (Uha) on a fishing trip and you need to drink 1 drink of vodka. Or 2 drinks. But usually it doesn't end with such a small dose. And it may well turn out to be a 0.5 liter bottle of vodka per person. Or even more.
Good evening @apnigrich How not to love fishing really. This reminds me of an English TV chef Keith Floyd who was always drinking when cooking even on the side of a boat. I am raising my half full (I am a true optimist!) glass of fizz and I say cheers to that wonderful party boat type of experience. I am sure that many would enjoy looking at some photos from such a trip as it is always great to see how the real people life and enjoy fishing and life really.

There was fishing last year. For 3 days, the three of us were in a boat - me, my nephew and the dog Boy
