Shadows, like light, are fundamental components of photography, shadow being understood as that part of the image that is not partially or completely illuminated.

Its presence in the photograph depends on several factors: size, shape and contour; being determined by the type of light source, by the size relationship between the object and the luminous surface, and finally, the distance between them.

Shadows usually fall into two categories: projected shadows and shadows formed by the photographed object itself. There are several techniques to enhance or soften shadows according to the use or type of photograph we are looking for or trying to obtain.

For this new initiative by @bambuka from the World of Xpilar Community, all participants are requested to use a photograph corresponding to the "Shadow" theme, that is, where the shadow is present as an element in the graphic composition.

In this sense, as in my city the most recent days have been quite cloudy, and sometimes, with rains of varying intensity, I decided to look for photos from my personal archive where there were shadows present, finding a couple that seemed quite appropriate for this photographic challenge.

In the image below, you can see how the shadows of the vegetation located adjacent to the building are projected on the walls of the building, however, as the walls are not uniform in texture and color, in addition to the existence of doors that break the continuity, the shadows are not able to develop in full.

La sombra, al igual que la luz, son componentes fundamentales de la fotografía, entendiéndose por sombra como aquella parte de la imagen que no está parcial o completamente iluminada.

Su presencia en la fotografía depende de diversos factores: tamaño, forma y contorno; viéndose determinados por el tipo de la fuente de iluminación, por la relación de tamaño que existe entre el objeto y la superficie luminosa, y finalmente, la distancia entre ellos.

Usualmente las sombras se engloban en dos categorías: las sombras proyectadas y las formadas por el propio objeto fotografiado, existiendo diversas técnicas para acrecentar o suavizar las sombras de acuerdo al uso o tipo de fotografía que buscamos o procuramos obtener.

Para esta nueva iniciativa del compañero @bambuka de la Comunidad World of Xpilar, se nos solicita a todos los participantes, usar una fotografía correspondiente al tema "Shadow", es decir, donde la sombra esté presente como elemento en la composición gráfica.

En este sentido, como en mi ciudad los días más recientes han estado bastante nublados, y en ocasiones, con lluvias de diversa intensidad, decidí buscar fotos de mi archivo personal donde hubiesen sombras presentes, encontrándome con un par que me parecieron bastante apropiadas para este desafío fotográfico.

En la imagen que presento a continuación, puede observarse como se proyectan sobre las paredes de la edificación, las sombras de la vegetación ubicada en sus adyacencias, sin embargo, como las paredes no son uniformes en textura y color, además de la existencia de puertas que rompen la continuidad, las sombras no alcanzan a desarrollarse en su totalidad.

On the contrary, in this second photograph, I present a shadow generated by the structural elements of this late 19th century building with an interior patio and perimeter corridors; that is, the columns and the caña brava roof covered with corrugated clay tiles, which provides a shadow with a sawed outline that can be seen on the left side of the image where the floor meets the walls.

Por el contrario, en esta segunda fotografía, presento una sombra generada por los elementos estructurales de esta edificación de finales del Siglo XIX de patio interior y pasillos perimetrales; es decir, las columnas y el techo de caña brava recubierto con tejas onduladas de arcilla, lo cual proporciona una sombra con un contorno aserrado que se observa en la parte izquierda de la imagen donde se une el piso con las paredes.

This last photograph is the one I select to participate in this new challenge, among other reasons, because the shadows have a greater development due to the uniformity of the surfaces, without the presence of obstacles or objects that interrupt it; in addition, it has a vanishing point located in the central part of the image, which gives it three-dimensionality, and consequently, a greater visual appeal according to my criteria.

Esta última fotografía es la que selecciono para participar en este nuevo desafío, entre otras razones, porque las sombras tienen un mayor desarrollo por la uniformidad de las superficies, sin la presencia de obstáculos u objetos que la interrumpan; además, posee un punto de fuga ubicado en la parte central de la imagen, lo cual, le proporciona tridimensionalidad, y en consecuencia, un mayor atractivo visual de acuerdo a mis criterios.
