Currently, photo editing offers a wide range of tools that allow you to add more attractiveness to your photos, either by eliminating superfluous or distracting elements that get in the way or do not add more value to the image, illuminate dark areas or enhance details that would otherwise go completely unnoticed. In short, photo editing or retouching opens up an infinite number of possibilities when intervening in a photograph, depending on our purpose as artists or the type of viewers we want to target.

On my mobile phone, a Samsung Galaxy A12, I have downloaded the free versions of Picsart and Snapseed, with which I am quite familiar and which I think are sufficient for my editing work. Certainly, there are many others apps on the market and with a greater number of attributes, however, in my particular case, these two I named above are enough for me.

In this opportunity, our colleague @bambuka from the World of Xpilar Community offers us a 2000 x 1333 JPEG image of the port of St. Petersburg, which at first sight looks flat, monotonous, unattractive, with very dark areas and where no element stands out, with the purpose of editing it until obtaining a result that is pleasing to the eye.

Actualmente, la edición fotográfica ofrece un amplio abanico de herramientas que te permiten agregar mayor atractivo a tus fotos, bien sea, eliminando elementos superfluos o distractores que estorban o no le agregan mayor valor a la imagen, iluminar zonas oscuras o realzar detalles de que de otra manera pasarían completamente desapercibidas. En pocas palabras, la edición o retoque de fotos nos abre una infinidad de posibilidades al intervenir una fotografía, dependiendo de cual sea nuestro propósito como artistas o a que tipo de observadores queremos dirigirnos.

En mi teléfono móvil tengo descargadas las aplicaciones Picsart y Snapseed, con las cuales me encuentro bastante familiarizado y las cuales creo que son suficientes para mi trabajo de edición. Ciertamente, existen muchas otras en el mercado y con un mayor número de atributos, sin embargo, en mi caso en particular, estas dos que nombré anteriormente son suficientes para mí.

En esta oportunidad, el compañero @bambuka de la Comunidad World of Xpilar nos ofrece una imagen JPEG del puerto de San Peterburgo de 2000 x 1333, que a primera vista se observa plana, monótona, poco atractiva, con zonas muy oscuras y donde no resalta ningún elemento, con la finalidad de editarla hasta obtener un resultado agradable a la vista.

First, I resize the original image to 1280 x 853 with the Picsart application, which is the size I normally use to post on Steemit from my cell phone, and immediately apply a High Dynamic Range (HDR) filter, looking to add more light to the dark areas of the photo.

Then I go to Snapseed where I modify the structure and sharpness values of the image I got from Picsart in order to improve its resolution.

En primer lugar, redimensiono la imagen original a 1280 x 853 con la aplicación Picsart, el cual es el tamaño que normalmente empleo para postear en Steemit desde mi móvil, e inmediatamente aplico un filtro del tipo High Dynamic Range o Alto Rango Dinámico (HDR), buscando agregar mayor iluminación a las zonas sombrías de la foto.

Posteriormente me dirijo a Snapseed donde modifico los valores de estructura y nitidez de la imagen que obtuve de Picsart con el fin de mejorar su resolución.

At this point, my intention was to highlight or emphasize the roofs of the buildings in the city, particularly the golden dome of what I presume is a temple, which can be seen on the left, as well as alter or enhance the cloudiness present at the time the photograph was taken; so I tried the various filters offered by the application, looking for one that would give me that effect without significantly affecting the rest of the elements present in the photograph.

I also tried to alter the values of brightness, contrast, saturation and structure in some specific areas of the image, trying to capture the ideas I had in my head.

En este punto, mi intención era resaltar o destacar los techos de las edificaciones de la ciudad, particularmente la cúpula dorada de lo que presumo se trata de un templo, que puede observarse a la izquierda, así como alterar o darle realce a la nubosidad presente durante el momento en que se tomó la fotografía; por lo cual ensayé los diversos filtros que me ofrece la aplicación, buscando alguno que me proporcionara ese efecto sin afectar notablemente el resto de los elementos presentes en la fotografía.

De igual manera, procuré alterar los valores de brillo, contraste, saturación y estructura en algunas zonas puntuales de la imagen, buscando plasmar en ella las ideas que tenía en mi cabeza.

I must confess that this is not a linear process, on the contrary, it is a process of trial and error, so many times I have to retrace my steps, making, undoing and redoing the changes; so sometimes it is not so easy to document it in a strict chronological order.

Finally, I do not always feel completely satisfied with the results I obtain, however, on this occasion I hope to have made worthy of this city that houses in its interior, monuments considered World Heritage by UNESCO.

Debo confesar que este no es un proceso lineal, por el contrario, es un proceso de ensayo y error, por lo que muchas veces debo volver sobre mis pasos, haciendo, deshaciendo y rehaciendo los cambios; por lo que en ocasiones no es tan fácil documentarlo en un estricto orden cronológico.

Finalmente, no siempre me siento completamente satisfecho con los resultados que obtengo, sin embargo, en esta ocasión espero haber hecho merecedor de esta ciudad que alberga en su interior, monumentos considerados Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO.
