Market Friday: looking around to buy some cheap orchids.

One evening an old friend phoned me up and asked me to accompany her to a night market. No one in her house wanted to go to this small market selling pot plants. I decided to go with her as I was curious why my friend wanted to be there.

It turned out to be a very small market with dim lighting! I ought to bring along my torch light. We could hardly see anything clearly as vendors had to depend on street lamps. But it was quite interesting as there were unusual pot plants on sale at cheap prices.

The reason my friend wanted to go there was a small area of vendors selling orchids. These orchids were quite the usual stuff we would see in big markets. But their prices were much cheaper. I didn’t have my car with me so I refrained from buying any plants. However, I came back with six small shoots of dwarf orchids. Some of these blossomed a few weeks later.

Unfortunately, I replanted them in my garden in the farmhouse and only one still survives to these days! We forgot to water them in the dry season as they were quite small so we didn’t notice that they needed watering! That’s my lesson! Never buy very small orchids again!
