Happy Caturday: stray cats at the temple are getting bigger.

The stray cats at the temple are getting too friendly with me! They have very good ears! As soon as I parked my car, some would be running to greet me. This was quite dangerous sometimes as some kittens followed the older cats into the car park without any awareness of other cars. I had try to be as quiet as possible, but somehow they could recognise different engine sounds.

I have noticed that some adult cats have disappeared for several weeks. I was quite concerned if they had been killed by cars inside the temple. The monk told me that he probably went after the female cat. But I thought that was unlikely as there were enough female cats around the temple. I hoped and prayed for his safe return soon.

On the other hand, some tiny kittens had recovered from their illness and they are getting bigger. An old cat could hardly chew dry food, so I had to give him more wet food. He’s so sweet; he would just a bit further back waiting for his turn of wet food.

Other young kittens were super fast in taking other cats’ share of food. One young black kitten was very aggressive and liked to slap older cats. I hoped he wouldn’t turn into a gangster cat! It took me almost an hour to feed all these cats and waited for them to finish kicking the plates. It’s quite entertaining observing these kittens and cats mingle around competing for food.

Fortunately, I saw a man on his motorcycle in the evening with bags of fried fish; he came to feed stray cats at the other corner of the temple often. There’s an elderly Chinese lady who came to feed four stray cats hiding near the river. So, all stray cats would not go hungry for too long. There were other younger monks who occasionally feed mother cat with tiny kittens. This mother cat has orange colour, so we’ll see more orange kittens in the future.

I wish more local people would bring they’re left over food to feed stray cats or buy proper cat food for these hungry cats. Surprisingly, these stray cats are always very gentle and friendly. Some cats are timid and shy of strangers as they were previously badly treated by humans. I hope thx monks would continue to feed these cats and the missing cats would be returning to the temple soon.
