The canon of the human head / El canon de la cabeza humana - Masterclass (#club100)

El canon de la cabeza humana es una guía que utilizan los artistas para dibujarla de forma proporcionada y estilizada. El canon se basa en la medida de la cabeza en relación con el cuerpo y establece que la cabeza tiene aproximadamente un sexto del tamaño del cuerpo. También se utiliza para determinar la ubicación y el tamaño de los rasgos faciales, como los ojos, la nariz y la boca. Es importante señalar que el canon de la cabeza humana es solo una guía y no se aplica de manera rígida a todas las personas. Los artistas suelen modificar el canon según sus necesidades y preferencias estéticas.
(1) Starting by drawing a circle, then draw ellipses on both sides as shown. That's so it's flat on the sides because the head isn't a perfect ball, it's flat on the sides.
(1) Comenzando por dibujar un círculo, luego dibuje elipses en ambos lados como se muestra. Eso es para que quede plano a los lados porque la cabeza no es una bola perfecta, es plana a los lados.
(2) By dividing the ellipse in two we obtain the height of the eyebrows in the centre, in the upper part we define the limit of the forehead and below the base of the nose. Then we add another division below equal to the previous ones with which we obtain the base of the chin and we will thus have divided the head into three equal parts
(2) Al dividir la elipse en dos obtenemos la altura de las cejas en el centro, en la parte superior definimos el límite de la frente y debajo la base de la nariz. Luego añadimos otra división por debajo igual a las anteriores con la que obtenemos la base del mentón y habremos así dividido la cabeza en tres partes iguales.
(3) Then we divide the central part of the face, limited by the ellipses on the sides, into thirds with which we obtain the size and separation of the eyes and also the width of the nose.
By dividing the height of the head in two we get the height of the position of the eyes.
(3) Luego dividimos la parte central de la cara, limitada por las elipses de los lados, en tercios con lo que obtenemos el tamaño y separación de los ojos y también el ancho de la nariz.
Al dividir la altura de la cabeza en dos obtenemos la altura de la posición de los ojos.

(4) We divided the lower third of the head in two to determine the edge of the lower lip of the mouth. Then we will divide the upper half, under the base of the nose into three to draw the upper lip.

(5) We divide the section of the nose into three to proportionally draw the nostrils.
We draw the opening of the mouth on the line of the second third as shown. The corner of the lips, as you can see, is in relation to the inner edge of the iris of the eyes.

(6) Finally we are going to relate the size of the ears to the face. As you can see in the drawing, the size of the ear is limited by the height of the eyebrows and the base of the nose.

Once we have considered all these measurements, proportions and relationships, we proceed to schematically draw the main parts of the face.

These are the basic proportions of the adult human face and this is just a schematic drawing to learn the most important measurements.
Pay attention to these measurements, and always keep them in mind when drawing a human face, this will allow you to establish the differences between the different faces, depending on gender, race, and age.
You will see how easy it will be for you to define the thickness of the lips, the width of the nose, the size of the eyebrows, etc. once you have appropriated this canon of the human head.
Estas son las proporciones básicas del rostro humano adulto y este es sólo un dibujo esquemático para aprender las medidas más importantes.
Presta atención a estas medidas, y tenlas siempre en cuenta a la hora de dibujar un rostro humano, esto te permitirá establecer las diferencias entre los distintos rostros, dependiendo del género, la raza y la edad.
Verás qué fácil te resultará definir el grosor de los labios, el ancho de la nariz, el tamaño de las cejas, etc. una vez que te hayas apropiado de este canon de la cabeza humana.

That is good tutorial, gives basic guidance in drawing of human head, I remember how it was difficult for me when I started, how many times I re-done my drawings :)
