The photos were taken during a day, from sunsrise to sunset. The area is Damaraland in Namibia. On my travels through the country, I saw many different landscape, but to me, that of Damaraland was one of the most beautiful. It is also varied, but that rocky landscape at sunrise and sunset. That day we covered 190 kilometers, but had many stops on our way.

The day starts in Hoada Camp, Grootberg. It is completely on its own. In the evening it was cold, but we sat around the fire and entertained ourselves with song and storytelling under a wonderfully clear starry sky. Before breakfast we had time to take a walk among the rocks and watch the sun rise.

As we kept driving we drove through Grootberg Pass, but the landscape is more or less desert.

Our last stop before the next camp was at Twyfeltontein. This area has one of the largest amount of rock carvings on the African continent and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007. The engravings show that there was once a very rich wildlife here. Thus, it was a paradise for hunters. Some of the engraving shows pictures of animals that no longer live in the area.

Finally we arrived at our next camp which was Madisa. This camp had both a swimmingpool, bar and facilities. There were allready a lot more tents here than our previous camp (where we were the only ones), but the rocky surroundings are amazing. To be able to sit and watch the sun set, I climbed the rocks on the sunny side. Definitly a good way to end that day.

Thanks a lot. It looks just so amazing when you are there :)

That sounds like real adventure, such untouched beauty of nature with such carving on stones. I like the idea of arriving into the camp with swimming pool and bar, cold drinks and cold water might be really rewarding :)
