MY YEAR 2020~//100% POWERING UP

Well the year 2020 have been a hell of a year indeed for everybody i suppose but also for me.

Really never have all this turbulent things occur before my very eyes like what occured in 2020 alone, From the Covid-19 outbreak to Asuu strike, from police brutality to end police brutality protest which indeed resulted to massive spill of blood and the food shortages suffered by the poor masses during the course of the year, students being forced to sit at home even after the lockdown was eased because of asuu and fg drama.

The year 2020 have indeed caused more harm than good, and i will be highlighting different factors that transpired in 2020 to make it so.

These factors are as follows;

COVID-19

Indeed the outbreak of the corona virus stole the headline for the year, a virus so powerful that it affect everywhere on a global scale.
Almost all countries of the world were affected in one way or the other because of the virus.

Well for me it affected me in that we were forced to stay back from school as safety measures as all schools were closed down in the country. Ofcourse for my part it did affect me and my family seeing as how my mother is also a teacher and thus have to stay home and businesses were also closed down which also meant my father who is a businessman to close down as well, ofcourse it affected the finance of the family in ways we could not imagine, some times is either no food not just necessarily because there is no funds to buy them but no place as market place was closed down.

Ofcourse we did have some food stocks before then but as a result of being holed inside for months it did eventually finish as expected. And to think that in my country parliatives that was given to relieve the citizens during the pandemic was stored and hoarded by some persons instead of using it for what it was meant for. Ofcourse we were all affected.
Movement restricted, places of worship closed down, indeed this was unlike anything i have seen before and yes its impact was negatively felt by me among others.

   ASUU STRIKE

The asuu strike which coincided with the lockdown due to corona virus has also being another thing that has being on the spotlight for the year 2020 in my country ngeria which has led to students to remain at home, even after the lockdown was eased and private universities and polytechnics resumes, even secondary schools and primary schools did resume but not public or state universities which are under asuu. And me as a student of micheal okpara university of agriculture which is a member of asuu i have been forced to remain at home even as some other schools are reopening in the country.

Indeed asuu strike has greatly impacted education negatively in nigeria, and even as i penned down this very words asuu and fg is yet to fully resolve the issues that lead to the 8 months old strike.

POLICE BRUTALITY

In 2020 also the level of police brutality got to a new height, especially the factions known as Sars in nigeria which is the special anti robbery squad who took great pleasure in harrasing the youths for no just cause. Mostly just for looking nice and dressing well they will be arrested on the charge of being a fraudster. Almost any youths who look neat is now being suspected for being a fraudster and most times the police without much evidence forcefully arrest this innocent youths for no just cause.

The matter of police brutality was indeed at an all time high in 2020, personally i witness my very good friend being arrested by merely walking at the roadside because they felt because of how he dressed he was fraudster. People were no longer arrested for breaking rules but by sentiments on the parts of the police. In some cases this innocent youths are being killed maybe for refusing arrest and trying to defend their rights.

 END POLCE BRUTALITY PROTEST

Because of the high level of brutality by the police it lead to a nationwide protest to end police brutlity, in what was supposed to be a peaceful protest it soon lead to a bloody and violent protest in most part of the country which lead to loss of lives of both the police and protesters.

In my place especially the protest got violent to the point we were forced to flee from our homes in fear for lives. Hoodlums soon entered the stage in the name of protesting, they burned down police stations in my place oyigbo local govt area in Rivers state nigeria.

The local judiciary court was burnt down by the hoodlums faction, polices stations and other government properties. This led the military to be deployed to maintain order. This hoodlums engage the soldiers and indeed it was bloody.
We barely sleep at nights because gunshots became part of our way of life, when it got really serious we had to flee from oyigbo in rivers state to akwete in abia state.

Indeed we stayed there for up to 3weeks after things calm down to return home because life is precious.

    FOOD SHORTAGE

Ofcourse all this things that transpired in the year among many other things lead to scarcity of food, the covid 19, the matter of the police brutality and so on led to and increase to the want of food like never seen in a long time. Most times where to buy this food is a problem just like in the case of the covid-19 and the protest time when both marketplaces and shops were closed even when we were running for our dear lives.

So in generally these factors have negatively impacted this year for me, my family, the nation, and the rest of the world.

What good comes from this year? Did anything good happen to me in 2020? Is there anything to be grateful about in 2020?.

Yes indeed there is a few things one and importantly is life. The fact we are still alive despite the misfortune of the year, filled with life threatning drama is one thing to be thankful for. Thats why am grateful to my good God Jehovah who kept us alive during all these happenings and together we will march into 2021 as conquerors of 2020.

Another thing to be thankful of is for steemit our great bockchain which kept me busy during the period of lockdown and unrest. Despite the instabilities of 2020 steemit was one thing that kept on moving and booming. Our great community make it possible to share our experiences with others and interact with them and also earn which has really helped me alot i must say. Indeed this community and wonderful blockchain has been a blessing in 2020. Its one of the positive things that kept me moving despite the madness of the year.

Another thing that was a source of joy to me was bitcoin reaching and breaking it all time high of $20, 000 climibing even to $24, 000 before dropping below again though still above 20 thousand US dollar.
