Barcelona….. The name is like a tale waiting to be told. This is the city where history, football and culture dance in harmony. That's why it's on my dream list.

But Barcelona is more than football. This is the city where emotion and Spanish temperament live in harmony with unique history and architecture. Majestic and bold, the Catalan and Gothic aesthetics in architecture are in a unique ensemble. I was pleased to visit the mysterious corners of Park Güell and Antoni Gaudi's masterpiece. This is a new, fantastic, colorful world that even seen in photos could not be forgotten.

However, the history of Barcelona is not only related to architecture and football. It is also the struggle for the independence of Catalonia. The thirst of a people to express themselves and be recognized, streets frozen with protests and the breath of freedom you have the courage to take….. Sound familiar?

Barcelona's history can be explored throughout the city. The oldest areas are located near the sea, including the market area located in the Gothic Quarter (Barri Gotic). On the other side of the main boulevard, La Rambla, is the famous Raval district. Until the 1980s, it was a slum, including Chinatown. Today, you can find expensive boutiques and restaurants there.

The pleasure of walking around Barcelona is undoubtedly connected with the pleasure of food. The culinary art of Catalonia can be felt very strongly in the culture of the region. The multitude of restaurants in Barcelona can most easily be divided into two: old and new. In Barcelona you can visit some of the most fashionable restaurants in the world. Traditional Catalan cuisine is, of course, highly respected here. Although heavy at times, it also includes many vegetable dishes such as samfaina (similar to ratatouille - a mixture of vegetables and specific spices). Among the most famous dishes is "rustic pa amb tomàquet" - a slice of bread with olive oil, salt and freshly crushed tomatoes.
New restaurants are usually more expensive, but recently many of the students of famous chefs are opening their own restaurants at lower prices. Old restaurants, on the other hand, offer better value for money. Always reserve a table and know that dinner is not served before 9:00 p.m. Be sure to enjoy the light bites at the tapad bars.

To feel the spirit of Barcelona, you can also walk through some of its markets - 40 in total. The Boqueria market on La Rambla is one of the most famous in the city and at the same time a tourist attraction.
