Cuentos de Terraformación - Santuario

Quienes han colonizado los primeros mundos terraformados, desconocen que no todos los planetas que modificamos tienen como propósito ser destino de colonias humanas, son más los mundos que cambiamos con la intensión de que sirvan de hogar, a las más de treinta mil formas de vida macroscópica y varios cientos de miles microscópicas, que formaban parte de la tripulación de la Perseo. Son los mundos santuario.

La mayoría de estas formas de vida, convive con los humanos en los mundos que colonizamos, pero hay otras que, por las características de ellos, no han podido ser sembradas y siguen a la espera de mundos que les permitan prosperar, como otras ya lo han hecho.

TA234 es uno de estos mundos, sin grandes masas continentales emergidas, sólo algunos pocos islotes, que no podrían albergar ni un pequeño poblado, además de tener una gravedad que supera a la de la Tierra, la que ya es mayor a la que es común en la mayoría de los mundos humanos actuales; por lo que no es un mundo apropiado para albergar ciudades humanas; por más que en el proyecto original del ingeniero ambiental que lo descubrió, haya planificado ciudades flotantes.

Su destino sería la proliferación de formas de vida acuática, pero la baja salinidad de su único océano, a conducido a la modificación de las especies que en el serán incorporadas; para que se adapten a aguas de baja concentración de sales; por lo que fue el inicio de la creación de especies terrestres mutadas, que luego se volverían comunes en los mundos, tanto santuarios como colonizados.

Otra de las novedades que Implicó este proyecto, fue la imposibilidad de fijar los nodos de la red en tierra, por la casi carencia de ella y porque se inundaba cuando subía la marea; así que TA234, sería el primero de varios mundos, que tendría una red de terraformación flotante; en la que los nodos se encontrarían instalados en navíos, que recorrerían el planeta, dibujando rutas paralelas a su ecuador, a diferentes latitudes. A la vez que las máquinas de terraformación, como drones y sondas, se mantendrían constantemente en vuelo, deteniéndose sólo si requerían algún servicio.

TA234 fue el primero de varios mundos acuáticos en ser adecuados y el primero en el que se probaría la tecnología que hoy es usada en mundos como Typhon, donde no existe ni un milímetro de tierra seca y las ciudades flotan, a lo largo de los meridianos del planeta, manteniendo una distancia casi constante entre ellas.

Terraformation Tales - Sanctuary

Those who have colonized the first terraformed worlds are unaware that not all the planets we modify are intended to be the destination of human colonies, but more worlds we change with the intention that they serve as home to the more than thirty thousand forms of macroscopic life and several hundred thousand microscopic, which were part of the crew of the Perseus. They are the sanctuary worlds.

Most of these forms of life live with humans on the worlds we colonize, but there are others that, because of their characteristics, have not been able to be planted and are still waiting for worlds that will allow them to prosper, as others have already done.

TA234 is one of these worlds, with no great continental masses emerged, only a few islets, which could not house even a small population, besides having a gravity that exceeds that of the Earth, which is already greater than that which is common in most of the current human worlds; therefore, it is not an appropriate world to house human cities, even though in the original project of the environmental engineer who discovered it, he planned floating cities.

Its destiny would be the proliferation of forms of aquatic life, but the low salinity of its only ocean has led to the modification of species to be incorporated in it, so that they can adapt to waters with low concentration of salts; so it was the beginning of the creation of mutated terrestrial species, which later would become common in worlds, both sanctuaries and colonized ones.

Another novelty that this project implied was the impossibility of fixing the network's nodes on land, due to the almost lack of it and because it flooded when the tide rose; so TA234 would be the first of several worlds to have a floating terraforming network, in which the nodes would be installed on ships that would travel around the planet, drawing routes parallel to its equator, at different latitudes. At the same time, the terraforming machines, such as drones and probes, would be constantly in flight, stopping only if they required any service.

TA234 was the first of several water worlds to be suitable and the first to test the technology that is used today in worlds like Typhon, where there is not even a millimeter of dry land and cities float, along the planet's meridians, maintaining an almost constant distance between them.
