Riprogrammazione biologica per raggiungere l'immortalità.

E' su questo che la **società tecnologica Altos Labs ** sta puntando, ringiovanire le cellule attraverso la riprogrammazione biologica.

Da tempo le Big Tech sono interessate a trovare soluzioni per migliorare la salute e il prolungamento della vita degli esseri umani.

Ma l'attenzione che Altos Labs sta ricevendo dai grossi investitori non ha precedenti, sta ricevendo enormi quantità di fondi dalla Silicon Valley, sembra proprio che i super ricchi non vogliano invecchiare, come Jeff Bezos CEO di Amazon e il miliardario russo-israeliano Yuri Milner, 2 accaniti sostenitori e finanziatori del progetto.

Al momento non ci sono informazioni più dettagliate su come l'azienda svolgerà la ricerca scientifica anche se si sta accaparrando i migliori scienziati del mondo tra cui il premio Nobel Shinya Yamanaka, per la sua ricerca sull’inversione dell’invecchiamento nelle cellule.

Sembra assurdo che si impieghino risorse umane ed economiche per trovare un modo per non morire più di vecchiaia, stravolgendo il naturale svolgersi della vita, quando nel mondo reale ci sono così tanti altri problemi e malattie che portano alla morte di chiunque senza distinzione di età.

Già nel 2012 il cofondatore Paypal Peter Thiel parlava della morte come un qualsiasi problema da poter risolvere:

C’è tutta questa gente che dice ‘la morte è naturale, è solo parte della vita', ed io penso che non ci sia nulla di più lontano dal vero, la morte è un problema che può e deve essere risolto.Rif.

Sembra proprio che nella Silicon Valley il progetto dell'immortalità sia preso sul serio, o non si spiegherebbero tutte le aziende che si stanno interessando a questo tema.

Calico di Google nata nel 2013 con l’obiettivo dichiarato di testare sostanze che allungano la vita; la Human Longevity, Inc. attraverso algoritmi vuole prevedere i rischi individuali di cancro; Verily, con i suoi dispositivi si migliora la qualità di vita delle persone con diabete e Parkinson.

Ma l'obiettivo finale rimane quello di sconfiggere la morte.

Sarà questa la strada giusta per raggiungere l'immortalità?

Il tono un po' polemico che ha preso il mio post non è sicuramente legato al tipo di ricerca, ma all'uso che si farà di questa scoperta.

Forse un giorno si arriverà davvero a sconfiggere la morte, ma mi chiedo sarà una soluzione alla portata di tutti?

Oppure come accade già oggi che non tutti possono accedere ad alcune cure costose e ciò avviene non solo nei paesi in via di sviluppo, ma anche in paesi occidentali in cui la sanità non è pubblica; questa situazione potrebbe presentarsi anche con la cura dell'immortalità.

Credo che siamo appena agli inizi e ne avremo di tempo per interrogarci su questa faccenda, chissà quando e se Altos Labs raggiungerà i suoi obiettivi, starà sicuramente raccogliendo tantissimi milioni di dollari pur non avendo un progetto concreto alle spalle, ma come si dice tra il dire e il fare c'è di mezzo il mare..

Biological reprogramming to achieve immortality.

That's what tech company Altos Labs is focusing on, rejuvenating cells through biological reprogramming.

Big Tech has long been interested in finding solutions to improve the health and life extension of humans.

But the attention Altos Labs is getting from big investors is unprecedented, it's receiving huge amounts of funding from the Silicon Valley, it just seems like the super rich don't want to get old, like Jeff Bezos CEO of Amazon and Russian-Israeli billionaire Yuri Milner, 2 avid supporters and funders of the project.

At the moment there is no more detailed information on how the company will carry out scientific research although it is enlisting the best scientists in the world including Nobel Prize winner Shinya Yamanaka, for his research on reversing aging in cells.

It seems absurd that human and economic resources are being used to find a way to stop dying of old age, interrupting the natural course of life, when in the real world there are so many other problems and diseases that lead to the death of everyone, regardless of age.

Back in 2012 Paypal co-founder Peter Thiel talked about death as any problem that could be solved:

There are all these people who say 'death is natural, it's just part of life', and I think there is nothing further from the truth, death is a problem that can and should be solved.Ref.

It really seems that in Silicon Valley the immortality project is taken seriously, or it wouldn't explain all the companies that are taking an interest in this issue.

Google's Calico born in 2013 with the stated goal of testing life-extending substances; the Human Longevity, Inc. through algorithms wants to predict individual risks of cancer; Verily, with its devices improve the quality of life of people with diabetes and Parkinson's.

But the ultimate goal remains to defeat death.

Will this be the right way to achieve immortality?

The polemic tone of my post is certainly not related to the type of research, but to the use that will be made of this discovery.

Maybe someday it will actually come to defeat death, but I wonder will it be an affordable solution for all?

Or as it already happens today that not everyone can access some expensive treatments and this happens not only in developing countries, but also in Western countries where health care is not public; this situation could also arise with the immortality cure.

I think we are just at the beginning and we will have time to wonder about this matter, who knows when and if Altos Labs will reach its goals, it will surely be raising many millions of dollars despite not having a concrete project behind it, but as they say easier said than done, there's many a slip twixt cup and lip.
