The current status of Bangladesh cricket and the retirement of Shakib-Riyad

Cricket in Bangladesh these days is gradually going backward instead of progressing. The performance of the team especially in the T20 format is not up to expectations. Even the cricket analyst and coach Nazmul Abedin Fahim made harsh comments on the recent loss against India and raised questions about the XI formation. He advised Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad to retire.

Bangladesh has been participating in the T20 World Cup since 2007. However, even after so many years, no significant improvement has been noticed in this format. Rather, the performance of the team is going down day by day. The batting department of the team has always been weak, the bowling department is a place of hope but it does not last on the stage of Super Eight. Bowlers like Shakib Al Hasan and Mostafizur Rahman could not play a very effective role against Australia and India.

On Sunday, June 23, Nazmul Abedin Fahim expressed disappointment with the Bangladesh team's recent performance in front of the media. He spoke harshly about the mistakes made in the XI and the failure of senior cricketers. Fahim said, 'Yesterday we played one pacer less, because of which the captain suffered in our bowling arrangement. But the bowling unit played fairly well. I want to give them that credit.'

This World Cup may be Shakib's last World Cup. But still, Shakib has not come to any final decision in this regard. His favorite coach Nazmul Abedin Fahim advised Shakib to retire now for the sake of the team. He said, 'I saw his bowling quality very poor in the World Cup and the team suffered because of it. They (Shakib and Mahmudullah Riyad) should retire in good form so as not to burden the team.'

Fahim also said, 'Now playing good cricket is not enough. We have to play to win. As played by Tanjim Shakib and Tawheed Hriday.'

Bangladesh's dream of reaching the semifinals is almost over after two consecutive losses. However, Afghanistan's defeat of Australia has given some hope. Fahim said, 'Afghan players have come here after playing franchise leagues around the world. There is no chance without good performance in those places. We are playing in the national team without any competition. We don't have to go through the tough test that Afghanistan's players have to go through mentally.'
