Pranzo alla Masardona - Lunch at the Masardona [ITA-ENG]

Ciao a tutti!

Oggi ho fatto un salto nella tradizione popolare napoletana e mi sono fermato per un pranzo veloce alla Masardona.

E' una delle più antiche friggitorie della città di Napoli e la sua caratteristica è quella di essere specializzata nella produzione della pizza fritta.

Fondata nel 1945, la Masardona, che si trova nella zona delle Case Nuove, nei pressi della stazione centrale, è pura espressione della cultura popolare e anche la storia del suo nome lo dimostra.

Masardona era infatti la signora Anna Manfredi e questo appellativo con cui fu soprannominata, significa messaggera, per la sua capacità di allietare e di portare un messaggio di speranza, un momento felice al popolo oppresso e sofferente prima della liberazione di Napoli dall’ esercito tedesco durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale.

La tradizione è stata portata avanti dalla sua famiglia senza perdere l'essenza da cui tutto è nato. E infatti ancora oggi si può respirare la semplicità di un'arte immutata nei decenni.

Si può ancora assaggiare il famoso "battilocchio", un calzone fritto lungo la cui origine risale proprio al periodo del dopoguerra e pare ispirarsi agli americani che erano alti e magri, proprio come questo calzone dalla forma allungata.

Questa che invece vedete in foto è una classica pizza fritta farcita con ricotta, pepe, provola e pomodoro.

Impasto sottile, morbido e fragrante, davvero leggerissima considerando il fatto che fosse fritta, infatti non ci si ungono neanche le mani a mangiarla.

Se capitate in zona, è una tappa obbligata.
Se volete sedervi, potete farlo (sono velocissimi), altrimenti potete prendere la vostra pizza fritta al banco e gustarvela mentre fate una bella passeggiata.

Hello everyone!!

Today I took a leap into the Neapolitan popular tradition and stopped for a quick lunch at the Masardona.

It's one of the oldest frying shops in the city of Naples and its characteristic is that it is specialized in the production of fried pizza.

Founded in 1945, the Masardona, located in the Case Nuove area, near the central station, is a pure expression of popular culture and the history of its name proves it.

Masardona was in fact Mrs. Anna Manfredi and this appellation with which she was nicknamed, means messenger, for her ability to cheer and to bring a message of hope, a happy moment to the oppressed and suffering people before the liberation of Naples from the German army during the Second World War.

The tradition was carried on by her family without losing the essence from which everything was born. And in fact even today you can breathe the simplicity of an art that has remained unchanged over the decades.

You can still taste the famous "battilocchio", a long fried calzone whose origin dates back to the post-war period and seems to be inspired by Americans who were tall and thin, just like this long-shaped calzone.

This instead you see in the picture is a classic fried pizza stuffed with ricotta, pepper, provolone and tomato.

Thin, soft and fragrant dough, really light considering the fact that it was fried, in fact you don't even grease your hands to eat it.

If you happen to be in the area, it is a must.
If you want to sit down, you can do it (they are very fast), otherwise you can grab your fried pizza at the counter and enjoy it while taking a nice walk.
