Dear friends, sports fans,
Italian football is preparing to play the tenth day of the 2020/21 championship, the one that will probably go down in history as one of the most surprising of all.
However, in this article, I do not want to talk to you about the technical events that characterize the Serie A, which will be addressed in the usual appointment with Serie A review on Monday, but to emphasize some events that are destabilizing the tricolor football environment, following the so-called "Suarez case".
For the uninitiated, Luis Suarez former Barcelona center forward, now under Atletico Madrid, has been in talks with Juventus for a long time this summer, for a possible transfer; the obstacle to the definition of the negotiation was represented by the extra-community status of the strong Uruguayan player, who, however, having married a woman with an Italian passport, had the right to apply for citizenship in Italy, having to overcome, among other bureaucratic procedures, an intermediate level Italian language exam.
As emerges from the first investigations, the Sporting Director of Juventus, Fabio Paratici, would have exerted pressure on those in charge to speed up the procedure, in order to register Suarez in time, and it is suspected that the former Blaugrana center forward has received the text with the exam questions in advance, in order to obtain his linguistic certification without having to apply too much in the study.
In the event of any unlawful conduct of Paratici being ascertained, Juventus, according to the orientation held by the sports jurisdiction in the past in similar cases, would risk a fine, while the manager would risk a sanction that could lead to disqualification for a few months; however, in sports and non-sports newspapers, a real smear press campaign seems to have started against the Italian champion company, for which absurd punishments have been feared such as blocking the market, penalty points in the standings, relegation or exclusion from the championship.
Let's be clear: I believe that the conduct of Paratici, if confirmed, was unforgivably naive, unprofessional and absolutely punishable by ordinary justice; a real attempt to speed up the procedures for obtaining the passport, by putting pressure in the right environments, seems to have actually happened, but considering that it has not altered the sporting results in any way (Suarez does not play in the Italian league), imagine apocalyptic scenarios from a sporting point of view, I think it will only serve to sell a few more copies in the anti-Juventus part of Italy.
Which, moreover, as the most informed will know, has not happened even in much more serious cases, in which fraud has been ascertained both at a sporting and criminal level. I am referring, for example, to the case of Alvaro Recoba, another Uruguayan player, under Inter, in the decade from 1997 to 2007.
Called back after a year on loan at Venezia at the end of the 1998/99 championship, Recoba was faced with a big problem, which would have prevented him from playing for Inter: his new team already had five non-EU players in the squad, the maximum allowed by the rules of the time, which also provided for the simultaneous use of only three of them on the field.
The player then magically discovered that he had Spanish ancestors, and obtained a European passport on 12 September 1999, in record time to play in the league. Unfortunately for him, and for many other players involved, a year later it will be discovered thanks to two players under the Udinese, Warley and Alberto, blocked at the Polish border, that the speech of false passports involved several other athletes, under Milan, Inter, Roma, Sampdoria, Udinese, Lazio and Vicenza.
The penalties for similar crimes, in addition to what related to ordinary justice, provided for the defeat at the table plus a penalty point in each game, for the teams guilty of having employed an irregular player, which would have led some teams, such as Milan and Inter to a probable relegation and the sure exclusion from the European cups.

The fraud was also admitted by the then manager of Inter, Gabriele Oriali (sentenced, after the plea bargain, to six months of imprisonment turned into a financial penalty), but on the sporting level it was resolved simply by changing the rule: in fact, six rounds from the end of the championship, the federal council, under pressure from the teams involved, decided to allow the use of an unlimited number of non-EU members, changing the rules of a running championship for the first time in the history of football.
By doing so, the companies involved made themselves safe from the punishments provided, since, at the time of the sentence, it would necessarily have had to take into account the fact that the offense to be punished was no longer considered as such.
All the guilty teams, therefore, got away with a hefty fine, but according to the same people who then shouted their indignation from the rooftops in the event of heavier penalties, Juventus today would risk being banned from the championship, for an advantage in the end never got.

Cari amici, amanti dello sport,
il calcio italiano si appresta a disputare la decima giornata del campionato 2020/21, quello che passerà con buona probabilità alla storia come uno dei più sorprendenti di tutti.
Tuttavia, in questo articolo non voglio parlarvi delle vicende tecniche che caratterizzano la Serie A, che verranno affrontate nel consueto appuntamento con Serie A review del lunedì, ma porre l'accento su alcune vicende che stanno in queste ultime ore destabilizzando l'ambiente calcistico tricolore, in seguito al cosiddetto caso Suarez.
Per chi non lo sapesse, Luis Suarez ex centravanti del Barcellona, ora in forza all'Atletico Madrid, è stato a lungo in trattativa quest'estate con la Juventus, per un possibile trasferimento in bianconero; l'ostacolo alla definizione della trattativa era rappresentato dallo status di extra-comunitario del forte giocatore uruguaiano, che tuttavia, avendo sposato una donna dal passaporto italiano, aveva diritto di far richiesta di cittadinanza in Italia, dovendo però superare, tra le altre pratiche burocratiche, un'esame di lingua italiana di livello intermedio.
A quanto emerge dalle prime indagini, il Direttore Sportivo della Juventus, Fabio Paratici, avrebbe esercitato pressioni su chi di competenza per accelerare l'iter delle pratiche, al fine di tesserare in tempo utile Suarez, e si sospetta che l'ex centravanti blaugrana abbia ricevuto in anticipo il testo con le domande dell'esame, in modo da ottenere la sua certificazione linguistica senza doversi applicare troppo nello studio.
Nel caso venisse accertata una qualche condotta illecita da parte di Paratici, la Juventus, secondo l'orientamento tenuto della giurisdizione sportiva in passato in casi analoghi, rischierebbe un'ammenda, mentre il dirigente una sanzione che potrebbe portarlo alla squalifica per qualche mese; eppure sui quotidiani sportivi e non, pare essersi avviata una vera e propria campagna stampa denigratoria nei confronti della società campione d'Italia, per la quale sono state pavantate assurde punizioni come il blocco del mercato, punti di penalizzazione in classifica, la retrocessione o l'estromissione dal campionato.
Intendiamoci: credo che la condotta di Paratici, qualora confermata, sia stata imperdonabilmente ingenua, poco professionale e assolutamente sanzionabile dalla giustizia ordinaria; un reale tentativo di velocizzare le pratiche per l'ottenimento del passaporto, facendo pressione negli ambienti giusti, sembra essere effettivamente avvenuto, ma considerando che alla fine il tutto non ha alterato i risultati sportivi in alcun modo (Suarez non gioca nel campionato italiano), immaginare scenari apocalittici da un piunto di vista sportivo, temo serva esclusivamente a vendere qualche copia in più nella pancia dell'Italia anti-juventina.
Cosa che del resto, come i più informati sapranno, non è accaduta nemmeno in casi molto più gravi, nel quale è stata accertata la frode sia a livello sportivo che penale. Mi riferisco, ad esempio, al caso di Alvaro Recoba, altro giocatore uruguaiano, in forza all'Inter, nel decennio che va dal 1997 al 2007.
Richiamato alla base dopo un anno di prestito al Venezia alla fine del campionato 1998/99, Recoba si trovò di fronte ad un grande problema, che gli avrebbe impedito di giocare nell'Inter: la sua nuova squadra aveva già in rosa cinque extra comunitari, il massimo consentito dalle regole dell'epoca, che prevedevano inoltre l'impiego contemporaneo in campo di solo tre di essi.
Il giocatore allora scoprì magicamente di aver avuto avi spagnoli, ed ottenne un passaporto europeo il 12 Settembre 1999, in tempo record utile per giocare in campionato. Purtroppo per lui, e per molti altri calciatori coinvolti, un anno dopo si scoprirà grazie a due giocatori in forza all'Udinese, Warley e Alberto, bloccati alla frontiera polacca, che il giro di passaporti falsi coinvolgeva diversi altri atleti, in forza a Milan, Inter, Roma, Sampdoria, Udinese, Lazio e Vicenza.
Le sanzioni previste per reati simili, oltre a quanto relativo alla giustizia ordinaria, prevedevano la sconfitta a tavolino più un punto di penalizzazione in ogni parttita, per le squadre ree di aver impiegato un giocatore irregolare, cosa che avrebbe portato alcune squadre, come Milan e Inter ad una probabile retrocessione e alla sicura estromissione dalle coppe europee.
La frode fu ammessa anche dall'allora dirigente nerazzurro, Gabriele Oriali (condannato dopo il patteggiamento a sei mesi di reclusione), ma sul piano sportivo il tutto si risolse semplicemente cambiando la regola: a sei giornate dal termine del campionato infatti, il consiglio federale, su pressione delle società coinvolte, decise di permettere l'impiego di un numero illimitato di tesserati extra-comunitari, cambiando per la prima volta nella storia del calcio le regole di un campionato in corsa.
Così facendo, le società coinvolte si misero al sicuro dalle punizioni previste, in quanto, al momento dell'emissione della sentenza, essa avrebbe per forza di cose dovuto tenere conto del fatto che l'illecito da punire non era più considerato tale.
Tutte le squadre colpevoli se la cavarono pertanto con una salata multa, ma secondo gli stessi che allora gridarono ai quattro venti la loro indignazione nell'eventualità di sanzioni più pesanti, la Juventus oggi rischierebbe la radiazione dal campionato, per un vantaggio alla fine mai ottenuto.

Well I don't understand why they want the player if the first place, he is overrated and Italy has better players than him. But if all these facts are verified then of course is it not legitimate to speed up such procedures, actually it is illegal and they should get punished but of course it is not the first time these procedures are overcomed or speeded up to include a player in a team and not only in football but in many other sports.
Hi Anna, thanks for your comment! I agree, all illegal conduct must be properly sanctioned, the problem is when someone appears untouchable, and in the history of Italian football it has happened several times in recent years. 😉

I agree with you the problem is that it's a whole system working that way, I suppose that when you have the will noone is untouchable, let's not forget that Juventus was relegated in the past but you know corruption exists in all the levels (football, politics, goverments) so nothing happens. Fifa and uefa are corrupted also so what you expect, unfortunately things are like this.
