Can AC Milan win the Scudetto? This is the question that is circulating with increasing insistence in football circles, after the brilliant start to the season that characterized the Rossoneri team, still unbeaten after nine games, in which they collected seven wins and two draws, proving to be able to dig the first important furrow in the standings, with a five-point advantage over the teams in second place.
It goes without saying that the formation coached by Stefano Pioli was not considered, on the eve, among the favorites for the final victory, but it is good to take note of the fact that, due to important performances, more and more credibility is recognized at the Milan also by bettors.
Since I am a great fan of statistics and historical appeals, I want to try to analyze in this article the possible correspondences between this championship and the one held ten years ago, which saw the Rossoneri team triumph: the historical evidence will be able to convince us of the fact that the Does Milan really have a good chance of winning the Scudetto?
On May 7, 2011, drawing 0-0 at the Olimpic Stadium against Roma, AC Milan arithmetically became Italian champions for the eighteenth time. That will be the last chance, up to the present day, to see a team other than Juventus, destined to win the next nine championships, triumph in Italy.
In the tournament that began ten years ago, some innovations were introduced, destined to remain up to the present day, such as the institution of the lunch match, the game played weekly on Sundays at 12.30 to favor the spread of Serie A in Asian markets. , and the split between the sport federation of Serie A and that of Serie B, in order to divide the burdens and competences of the two professional tournaments.
At the starting line, for the first time in the history of Italian football, no team was led by a coach who had already become Italian champion in the past, although there was a great favorite to win the title, Inter , winner of the last five championships (four plus one given by the Federation), entrusted after the farewell of Mourinho to the new course led by Rafa Benitez. Milan could even then count on the class and genius of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, returning to Italy after a rather disappointing year spent in Barcelona, as well as other champions such as Robinho and Van Bommel.
A bit like what happened with Sassuolo this year, even the first days of the 2010/11 championship saw the realization of many surprises, if you think that teams like Chievo and Cesena managed to reach the top of the ranking; at the end of the ninth day, however, a team seemed to take a good advantage on that occasion too (+4 over the second), but it was not Milan, destined to become Italian champion, but Lazio, considered on the eve as a sort of outsider.
If we wanted to rely on historical appeals, we would identify the Lazio of ten years ago with the Milan of today. However, the Capitoline team later went to meet a mini collapse, which made them lose the lead after only two days. Lazio resisted in the top positions until the start of the second half of the championship, but then gave up and broke away definitively to finish in fifth position.
But if the role of today's Rossoneri seems to have been played ten years ago by Lazio, who could currently play the Milan champion of Italy? I think there are only two plausible answers, one more accredited, the other a little less: Inter or Juventus.
It is possible that the other team from the city of Milan, after a start between many ups and downs, parallel to what happened at AC Milan in 2010, will start from now on to get into a higher gear, that allows her to reach the top of the table in a short time: for staff and depth of the squad, Inter of Antonio Conte seems to have no rivals in Italy, and after a first period of adjustment could begin to unite a series of results that lead it to relaunch itself towards the top of the standings.
A little less probable is a great return of Juventus, entrusted to a rookie coach and to a project based on the inclusion of new players, who have significantly lowered the average age of the team. The Piedmontese team has not yet lost in the league, being able to count on the best defense so far (two elements not to be underestimated), but the too many ups and downs recorded so far lead us to think more of a transition year than an unlikely reversal of this swinging trend.
That said, perhaps the biggest of the variables must be taken into account: the particular conditions under which the championship is played. Without the thrust and enthusiasm of the public, it is as if all matches take place in a sort of neutral field, and the likelihood that the stadiums will remain closed at least until spring can favor a greater shuffling of the cards.
In short, history would lead to suggest a change at the top in the coming days, but this is obviously just a game, far from being predicted.

Il Milan può vincere lo scudetto? Questa è la domanda che circola con sempre più insistenza negli ambienti calcistici, dopo il brillante avvio di stagione che ha caratterizzato la squadra rossonera, ancora imbattuta dopo nove giornate, nelle quali ha raccolto sette vittorie e due pareggi, risultando capace di scavare il primo importante solco in classifica, con un vantaggio di cinque punti sulle squadre al secondo posto.
Inutile sottolineare come la formazione allenata da Stefano Pioli non fosse considerata alla viglilia nel novero delle favorite per la vittoria finale, ma è bene prendere atto del fatto che, a suon di prestazioni importanti, il Milan si sta garantendo sempre più credibilità anche tra gli scommettitori.
Siccome sono un grande appassionato delle statistiche e dei ricorsi storici, voglio provare ad analizzare in questo articolo le eventuali corrispondenze tra questo campionato e quello svoltosi dieci anni fa, che ha visto trionfare la squadra rossonera: le evidenze storiche riusciranno a convincerci del fatto che il Milan ha davvero buone probabilità di vincere lo scudetto?
Il 7 Maggio 2011, pareggiando 0-0 all'Olimpico contro la Roma, il Milan diviene aritmeticamente campione d'Italia per la diciottesima volta. Sarà quella l'ultima occasione, fino ai giorni nostri, di veder trionfare in Italia una squadra diversa dalla Juventus, destinata a vincere i successivi nove campionati.
Nel torneo iniziato dieci anni fa, vennero introdotte alcune novità, destinate a rimanere fino ai giorni nostri, come l'istituzione del lunch match, la partita disputata settimanalmente la domenica alle 12.30 per favorire la diffusione della Serie A nei mercati asiatici, e la scissione tra la Lega di Serie A e quella di Serie B, al fine di dividere oneri e competenze dei due tornei professionistici.
Ai nastri di partenza, per la prima volta nella storia del calcio italiano, nessuna squadra si presentava guidata da un allenatore già divenuto in passato campione d'Italia, sebbene esistesse una grande favorita per la conquista del titolo, l'Inter, vincitrice degli ultimi cinque campionati (quattro più uno regalato dalla Federazione), affidata dopo l'addio di Mourinho al nuovo corso guidato da Rafa Benitez. Il Milan poteva anche allora contare sulla classe e la genialità di Zlatan Ibrahimovic, di ritorno in Italia dopo un anno piuttosto deludente trascorso tra le fila del Barcellona, oltre che su altri fuoriclasse come Robinho e Van Bommel.
Un po' come accaduto con il Sassuolo quest'anno, anche le prime giornate del campionato 2010/11 videro il realizzarsi di molte sorprese, se si pensa che squadre come Chievo e Cesena riuscirono a raggiungere la vetta della classifica; al termine della nona giornata però, una squadra sembrò anche in quell'occasione prendere il largo (+4 sulla seconda), ma non si trattò del Milan, destinato a diventare campione d'Italia, bensì della Lazio, considerata alla vigilia come una sorta di outsider.
Se volessimo affidarci ai ricorsi storici, identificheremmo la Lazio di dieci anni fa con il Milan di oggi. Tuttavia la squadra capitolina andò incontro successivamente ad un mini crollo, che le fece perdere la testa della classifica dopo sole due giornate. La Lazio resistette nelle posizioni di vertice fino all'inizio del girone di ritorno, per poi cedere di schianto e staccarsi definitivamente e arrivare a concludere il campionato in quinta posizione.
Ma se il ruolo dei rossoneri di oggi sembra essere stato svolto dieci anni fa dalla Lazio, chi potrebbe attualmente impersonare il Milan campione d'Italia? Le risposte plausibili credo siano solo due, una più accreditata, l'altra un po' di meno: L'Inter o la Juventus.
E' possibile che l'altra squadra di Milano, dopo un avvio tra molti alti e bassi, parallelamente a quanto accaduto al Milan nel 2010, cominci da ora in poi ad ingranare una marcia superiore, che le permetta in poco tempo di raggiungere la vetta della classifica: per organico e profondità della rosa, l'Inter di Antonio Conte sembra non aver rivali in Italia, e scontato un primo periodo di assestamento potrebbe iniziare ad inanellare una serie di risultati che la portino a rilanciarsi verso la vetta della classifica.
Un po' meno probabile è un ritorno in grande stile della Juventus, affiidata ad un allenatore esordiente e ad un progetto basato sull'inserimento di nuovi giocatori, che hanno abbassato di molto l'età media della squadra. La formazione piemontese non ha ancora perso in campionato, potendo fin qui contare anche sulla miglior difesa (due elementi da non sottovalutare) ma i troppi alti e bassi fatti registrare fin ora inducono più a pensare ad un'annata di transizione che ad un improbabile inversione di questa tendenza altalenante.
Detto questo, vi è da tenere in conto forse la più grande delle variabili: le condizioni particolari con le quali si sta giocando. Senza la spinta e l'entusiasmo del pubblico, tutte le partite è come se si svolgessero in una sorta di campo neutro, e la probabilità che gli stadi rimangano chiusi almeno fino alla primavera può favorire un maggior rimescolamento delle carte.
Insomma, la storia porterebbe a suggerire un cambio in vetta nelle prossime giornate, ma questo è ovviamente solo un gioco, ben lontano dal poter essere predetto.
