Why Domain Name Systems (DNS) should be decentralized?
Nowadays we see new websites being created all the time and it is important to have a system to determine the domain i.e. address. I discussed with you in the previous post how to decentralize this domain naming system and what are the advantages of decentralized domain naming. There I discussed what decentralized domain names are and why they are important. In today's post, I will share with you some of its important features. Hope you will benefit from this post.
Decentralized DNS systems offer a range of features and functionalities designed to boost security and user control. It maintains distributed registries of domain names and associated records. A single entity of centralized registration authority has been eliminated in this system. This enhances resilience and prevents censorship or manipulation of domain registrations. Domain name registrations and updates are recorded on a blockchain in the decentralized system. It provides a transparent and immutable record of ownership and history. Blockchain-based resolution mechanisms ensure that domain names are resolved accurately and securely without relying on centralized DNS servers.
Domain name registrations are cryptographically authenticated using digital signatures. This prevents unauthorized modifications or tampering of domain records and enhances security against DNS-related attacks. It has governance mechanisms that enable community participation in decision-making processes. Through consensus mechanisms or voting mechanisms, users can influence protocol upgrades and policy changes. This is a democratic system. This way the participation of the stakeholders is ensured. The registration will be acceptable to all. This is the beauty of a decentralized system of domain name registration.
