Hello everybody! Welcome to this informative post. Today we will talk about a very important Leadership which is known as First Time Managers.

Agenda:

Well, on the agenda today we will talk in detail about how to become a good time first time manager.

Let’s see some modules are:

  • First Time manager.
  • Understanding what the time expects.
  • Role of a first time manager
  • Effective Behavior of First Time Managers:
  • Building Team Spirit.
  • Conclusion.

FIREST TIME MANAGER:

"When people are put into a position to manage others it is usually reflective of their performance, work ethic for leading and helping others both directly and indirectly this first time you become a manager, it can be both a positive and overwhelming experience."

Research actually shows that less than 10 % of people, when they have got promoted as a first time manager I really not prepared for it. Well high performers who have recently promoted need to have certain skills sets. They do not have that. Trust me as an individual or as an organization. It has a complete disaster effect. SO, as a first time manager it is important being a manager can be challenging for both the individual or as an organization

Today we will discuss this module in much detail.

When or why new managers fail?

If an organization has promoted you as an individual or as a manager, it becomes important to understand why certain managers fail. So, Lets understand the reasons.

  • Don’t establish Goals:
    Well Its very important that a person who does not set goal in life , becomes directionless. And it’s important as a company to have directions and goals in life. A first time managers can fail if he don’t establish goal for himself as a manager. And for his team that he is leading.
  • Don’t Communicate Expectations:
    Now expectations are always there but a person cannot read manager’s mind. So, it’s become important to understand what the manager expects from his team members.
  • Don’t Give Effective Feedback:
    Well, as a manager you need to give not a negative but also positive feedback in a very constructive and nice manner. So, that people can response appropriately. So to give feedback is very important.

What the Company Expects from the Manager:

As a company there are certain expectations that a company or organization has of this first time manager.

Let’s see what is the big picture of the company when they promote new manager:

  • Stay Aware of the Big Picture:
  • Make your own decisions:
  • Implement new programs and methods
  • Inform your people about your company policies and procedures
  • Teach Effectively

So, these are certain things that a company expects from a first Time Manager and that no Too big expect

Role of a Manager:

As a manager you have a role and certain responsibilities. Well, we have understood that being promoted as a manager is a nice feeling, a positive feeling but it can be very overwhelming at a time. We have to set goals because this is very important. Not only for yourself but also for your time and the organization. You need to be able to take decisions in fair and effective manners. You also need to know how to managing and change. Now it’s important to understand that nothing is fixed in life. Everything keeps changing and as a new manager. You need to attempt yourself and be flexible. As a manager you need to have effective management. You need to prioritize your task that what is urgent or what is important. You need to have effective communication skills. You need to be good motivator to your people. You need to motivate yourself. So, be self-motivated. As well as motivate to your team members. Nobody wants to work under the manager who don’t motivate to his team members. Its also important that new manager needs to delegate. Well, as a manager there are lot of things that a person has to do. You need to know when to delegate and to whom to delegate and what type to delegate. And that’s important as a first time manager

  • Patience
  • Tolerance
  • Sensitivity
  • Empathy
  • Sense of humor
  • Decisiveness

Build team Spirit:

As a team manager you have to build your team. You will be a leader of a particular team and becomes important how to keep your team spirit high and how to keep motivated. So, Let’s understand you duty as a team manager:

  • Picture of the Future_ a vision for the team. A team only will stick to gather if they have a common goal or a common vision that they have to achieve.

  • Be Genuine towards people as we have mention today. Be very caring toward people .

  • Follow through on Commitments. If you have a commitment somebody make sure that you follow it. Never go back from your words.

  • Let others Speak first because people .

Common Mistakes:

  • Not Delegating.
  • Focusing on details rather than goals.
  • Imitating Others
  • Holding Back
