Hello guys,
Welcome to my blog. It's a great privilege once again to present my entry in this week's engagement challenge. This noble community this week talks about my favourite children's stories and the reason why it's my favourite.

As a child, I was always at the feet of my grandfather during the nighttime to listen to some fun stories from him. Most times he repeats most of the interesting stories just so we can be acquainted with them. Seeing this topic today reminds me of those good old days. Without further ado, let's go straight into the topic of discussion.

What is your favourite children's story, and why?

My favourite children's story is about the secret behind the back of the tortoise. A long time ago, it was said that the back of the tortoise was as smooth as the body of a newborn child but something happened that led to his back becoming rough.

A meeting was held in heaven and the tortoise had friends who can fly that is the birds, he was carried along to the meeting since he couldn't fly and doesn't have feathers. Other animals also looked for different ways to reach the meeting point.

After they arrived at the meeting, they took their time to discuss the main purpose behind their coming. This took a lot of time and before they could finish, they became very hungry. Food was prepared and served as they came in different groups.

Each group made different decisions as to how they wanted to share their food. The tortoise and his group also made their decision. The tortoise instead that they all have to close their eyes and pray before eating. So they agreed to pray. While they were still praying, the tortoise didn't close his eyes instead he focus on the food and ate it all.

The prayer took about an hour and before they could open their eyes, the tortoise had finished eating the entire food. The birds became very angry and said to him since you have done this, then you will come back home yourself.

They all fly back home and the tortoise was left alone. It got to a time when the heavens wanted to close because the meeting was over they told the tortoise to go back home. He said he doesn't have a way but they insisted. Before this time, he had already told one of the birds to tell his family to put beds in all places so that he can fall without scratching himself.

The bird said okay no problem. When the bird got home, he told the tortoise family that they should put stones and broken bottles everywhere because the tortoise can now fly and he want to show them. They did as the bird has told them. When the tortoise fell from heaven, he fell with his back on the stones and broken bottles and that is what made all tortoises have their backs in that manner.

Why is this story my favourite?

This story is one of the stories I listen to almost daily when I was a kid. My grandfather repeatedly tells us the story because he said being greedy is a very bad thing. A lot of people love eating alone without considering others. So we should always try to consider others first before ourselves.

Have children's stories taught you anything, marked you or influenced you in your life?

mine.PNG

Yes, this very story has taught me never to be greedy and selfish. In my journey of life, I prefer a free and fair society and that is the reason why ever I see things not working as expected I get more furious and annoyed. I hate injustice and would not stand it for a second.

With these stories, I prefer things to be done in the open and not in the dark. Let everything be transparent enough for everyone to openly see it. This has been my principle and those who have worked with me too have always seen this character within me. So I have always used the story as a reference to doing what is right.

How many children's stories do you remember reading? make a list, and enumerate them.

mine.PNG

As I have earlier said, there are numerous stories I was told by my grandfather but a few were quite interesting and whence I love hearing them over and over again. A list of a few stories I remember reading include

  • Eze goes to school
  • The drummer boy
  • Ure-Chokwu
  • Akam-di-Ocha (My hands are clean)

mine.PNG

If you have children or younger siblings, have you told them a children's story, which one and why?

mine.PNG

I don't have children at the moment because I'm not yet married. Though I have siblings and on several occasions, I have told them a few stories but the most interesting one I continually told them is that of the tortoise they too find it more interesting than the other stories.

I tell them these stories anytime we are together most especially during the night time before they will all go to bed. I always remind them of the moral lessons attached to it. I told them always to avoid being greedy and to always be transparent when doing anything in life.

mine.PNG

Have you created a children's story? Tell us about it

mine.PNG

No, I have not created any children's stories before. I have always listened and read through a different storybook as a child but was never taught of creating my own story. With the help of this contest today, I may consider doing that and will share it with everyone here if the next opportunity presents itself.

Conclusion

mine.PNG

There are many children's stories in the world today. I was privileged to sit with my grandfather who took out some time to explain a few of these stories to me and also told me the lessons that came with them. The story of the tortoise I have given above is my favourite and I always tell all the children I find around me. I want to invite a few friends to also join the contest. I call on @fjjrg, @graceleon, @jueco, @bambuka, @inspiracion and @msharif to join the contest if they have not presented their entries.

Good to listen a story of tortoise from you A tortoise is a very lazy animal but it have a lot of qualities in itself. When I was the kid then I always like to listen the stories of animals as you have sent that this was your favourite story in your childhood and your grandfather always told this story to you.

Definitely behind the story there will be a big lesson that's why your grandfather always like to tell this story to you.

You are creative in writing and I advise you to write stories because I think that you can create good stories but you have told that you don't write any story still you just listen stories from your elders and from books definitely.Success for you

Thanks for your comment my friend
