I welcome you to my post this week, we all had fun participating in the contest engagement in the previous weeks, this is the beginning of the 4th week of the contest, season 2 to be precise, and it is a pleasure to participate again in this community contest where they never fail to present wonderful contest, as such this week wasn't exempted, they had requested to know more about our work, the job we do for a living and as such I present my entry.

The current work I do now is a branch of a survey, it is of different categories at which we can practice surveying but in my case, i was taught to be a master in Land surveying, i learned this work through apprenticeship for 3 years coupled with architectural design as a draft man.

Since becoming a master in past years as a land surveyor, I have been working immensely as an entrepreneur, bearing all the profits and losses, good and bad that the job brings to me. Ever since my freedom, I have been securing contracts with land owners, helping my customers to purchase land from a very trustworthy source.

What is surveying

Surveying is the act of measuring or determining the area of a portion on the surface of the earth, it is concerned with determining the direction and length of boundary lines, and contour spaces on the earth and accurately demonstrating it or representing it on a sheet of paper. It is categorically categorized into several categories as such we have the CADASTRAL SURVEYING, GEODETIC SURVEYING, TOPOGRAPHIC SURVEYING, HYDROGRAPHIC SURVEYING, and ENGINEERING SURVEYING.

To carry out an effective job of each category or branch of a survey, a person with educational knowledge or technical skill can only carry out such a job coupled with knowledge of operating the instrument used in measuring. Let me not go into much detail about surveying as I only want to analyze a branch of a survey that I have learned and mastered over the years.

Cadastral survey, a surveyor in this category is also known as a land surveyor, as such its work is to measure and determine the area of a portion of land, the length and direction of boundary lines only on the earth's surface, this skill of measuring can only be done with instruments like a theodolite, total station, compass, GPS/GNSS, chain/tape, and poles.

The act of measuring on the portion of land is called transversing, when doing this the measurement is carried out in a clockwise direction with the use of a compass, a theodolite GPS, or a total station, these instruments are used in determining the direction of boundary and chain is simultaneously used to derive the length of the boundary lines.

When done with transversing, you compute the bearings and distances gotten from the portion of land and represent it on a sheet of paper. It is relevant to let you know that the role of a land surveyor is beyond measuring, we also plan and design land into subdivisions, thereby sectioning each plot/acre into blocks and making sure there is a road linking to every plot/acre available on the land, as such a land surveyor plays and inoperable role in the development of the lands.

The benefits of land surveying are

• It helps to determine the area of your property

• A land surveyor will help you purchase land from a trusted source.

• A land surveyor will help you see to the deeds of the seller if the measurement/property size on the deed corresponds to that on the land.

• A land surveyor will help you purchasing decisions about whether the land is in a good location or a bad location where the land is prone to flooding

• In similar ways you consult your structural engineer or interior engineer on building, it is pertinent to consult a land surveyor to know the potential of the land to help you prepare for construction and be free from issues.

• it is compulsory you hire a land surveyor to measure your new plot of land to be free from the inappropriate measurement which will save you from property line disagreement with your neighbor

As a surveyor, I measure, sell and buy land, for people and myself. it is field work with much labor, it requires mathematical computation to derive the area of a portion of land on the earth's surface. I have been able to successfully introduce you to my work, what I do and its benefits, I so much love my job regardless of the ups and downs I pass through during working.
