"Steemit Engagement Challenge S6/W2 - What steps would you take to save the soil?"
Hello friends, this week's the contest topic from Hind Whale Community is one that is quite current. I have no doubt that everyone will have the opportunity to take part in this wonderful and successful competition and to share their thoughts on the best plan for protecting the soil. We are really grateful to @hindwhale for providing us with such a great topic to discuss. Now let us move to the topic, ‘What steps would you take to save the soil?’.
Before we voice our ideas about the steps, we take to save soil, it is better to talk about the soil. The existence of people on this planet depends on soil, which is also a vital component of our surroundings. The majority of its parts are organic and inorganic, and it covers the rocky areas of the Earth's surface. One of the largest issues that the entire human race is currently facing is soil pollution.
What is soil Pollution?
Soil pollution is any undesired modification to the physical, chemical, or biological properties of the soil that lessens its fertility and usefulness. It is a significant environmental problem that also has long-term effects on people's health. Polluted soil hinders the proper development of plants. Although certain toxins develop naturally, industrialization and human activities are mostly to blame for the majority of them.
Soil pollution has a harmful effect on all living things. The majority of organisms find acidic soil to be very unfriendly. But it has a big effect on people's health. Oil, fuel, and other chemicals are dumped in the soil, poisoning it with chemicals, herbicides, and insects. When fertilizers are used to increase soil fertility, the soil is destroyed. Biodiversity loss and the discharge of solid waste are two other factors of soil pollution. Fertilizer loss in the soil is usually related to soil pollution.
Causes of soil pollutions
The two most frequent occupations that can damage the soil are farming and industry. Disposal chemicals and industrial waste into the ground without first treating them is the act of polluting the soil. Farmers employ fertilizers to improve crop production, but as they enter into the soil, they damage it.
Burying garbage is another prevalent practice for soil pollution. This might contain anything from domestic garbage to medical and industrial waste. These objects contain chemicals that may seep into the earth and contaminate it.
The fertile soil all over the world is constantly becoming more and more highly polluted due to the combination of toxic chemicals produced by domestic and industrial circles. The combination of dangerous chemicals produced by domestic and industrial settings is leading the world's rich soil to become increasingly dangerously polluted.
Soil pollution is also a result of numerous other factors, including acid rain, industrial accidents, road litter, nuclear waste, etc.
Effects of soil pollution
The health effects of soil pollution are extremely dangerous for people and other living things. When we eat food that has been grown in polluted soil, the crop absorbs the toxins, which are then consumed by people and can cause major, possibly deadly diseases. Crops cannot be produced on poor soils since it is no longer useful for growing crops. When soil water seeps through the earth and into natural water bodies, it does significant harm to the plants and animals that live there. It might also be the cause of soil degradation. Acid rain gets worse as a result of dirty soil.
How to control soil pollution
There are lots of techniques to control soil pollution. Educating the public about the effects of soil pollution is the most important first step in finding a solution. Industrialists should obey by all practical control measures, such as environmental protection rules, to lessen and prohibit soil contamination.
Industrial waste needs to be made less dangerous before being buried in the ground. Government should impose severe regulations on various industries.
It is important to educate people about the dangers of soil pollution. Plastics and other non-biodegradable materials ought to be prohibited. Increased tree planting will reduce soil erosion and stop soil pollution.
Farmers should utilize bio-fertilizers instead of chemical fertilizers. Farmers should change to compost and organic fertilizers instead of using as many poisons and bio-fertilizers. As many trees as possible should be planted, and reuse and recycling of solid waste should also be encouraged.
Conclusion
If soil productivity falls as a result of soil pollution, the economy would be damaged. Water pollution from soil pollution can potentially affect drinkable water. The effects of soil contamination extend to human health. If soil erosion increases, accidents like landslides and floods could happen. We have a responsibility to prevent circumstances that could result in soil pollution because the wellbeing and development of humanity depend on the integrity and health of the soil.
As the saying goes. ‘Prevention is better than Cure’, it is better to take above steps to make the world a safer place than to wish you had. Therefore, we should play our part to control soil pollution and make Earth a safer and better place to live.
