Aluminium, also known as aluminum, chemical element aluminium has the atomic number 13 and the letter Al assigned to it. In the Earth's crust, which makes up around 8% of the planet's solid surface, it is a plentiful, soft, lightweight, malleable metal that is silvery-white in color.

The third most prevalent element after silicon and oxygen is aluminium, which is a member of the boron group of elements. When Danish chemist Hans Christian Oersted made the initial discovery in 1825, it wasn't until the late 19th century that a practical way to make aluminium was discovered. The Hall-Héroult technique, developed independently by French scientist Paul Héroult and American chemist Charles Martin Hall in 1886, is being used today for industrial-scale aluminium production.

Aluminum has a high strength-to-weight ratio, which is one of its most notable characteristics and makes it the perfect material for use in lightweight applications. Due to a thin oxide layer that develops on its surface when exposed to air, it is also extremely corrosion resistant. The metal is shielded from further oxidation by this oxide layer, which also gives the metal its recognizable dull aspect.

Aluminum has a recycling rate of roughly 70%, making it another material that is very recyclable. Recycling aluminium is a green choice because it uses only 5% of the energy required to make new aluminium from raw resources.

Because to its weakness and softness, pure aluminium is not frequently employed in industrial applications.
