It's good to have you all here once again to this week's steemit engagement challenge S11/W4 hosted by the @hindwhale community with the theme "How democracy functioning in your country"

I really like the idea behind this challenge as almost every country in the world but certainly not all are operating a democratic system of government were the decisions of the citizens are greatly recognised.

HOW IS DEMOCRACY FUNCTIONING IN YOUR COUNTRY?

---

In Nigeria my country when we'd first got out independence in 1960 at first we started with a parliamentary system of government which we had the first prime minister which was sir abubakar tafawa belewa.

---

And then we later became a republic in 1963 were we switch to democratic system of government and eversince then we had many coup and counter coup d' tat of military intervention in politics in the 70s,80s & 90s but finally we'd return to operating democracy up till today.

---

And if I'm being asked how democracy is functioning in our country I would say that my country Nigeria is kind of operating a monarchical system of government in disguise 🥸 of being democracy.

---

In the sense that there would pretend as if there value the opinions, decisions and interest of the citizens instead all they care about is themselves.

IS YOUR COUNTRY FREE FROM ANY DOMINATION RULED?

---

Absolutely not infact there are more than fifty political parties in Nigeria but yet still eversince I was born up till today Nigeria is being ruled by only one party and that is the APC (All progressive congress).

---

At the same time even in our state which is akwa ibom state ever since I was born and started hearing of politics all the governor's governing akwa are all from only one party which is the PDP (people's democratic party).

---

So from that you automatically see that our country isn't free from a dominationed rule as the ruling party will continue to ensure that they candidates taking over from them is from their own party and that is why I say that democracy in my country isn't functioning well because they decisions of the citizens are greatly ignored by our leaders who are our representatives.

IS YOUR COUNTRY SELF-SUFFICIENT IN FOOD PRODUCTION?

---

The question alone made me laugh 😅, at the same time it makes me to remember when our former president closed out international boarder saying that we should manage what we have.

---

I could remember the hardship we all were going through and how people were dying because of hunger, our country Nigeria isn't self sufficient in food production and we depend solely on the importation of goods from other countries.

HOW IS YOUTH EMPLOYMENT IN YOUR COUNTRY?

---

When it comes to job and work it you are talking about celebrities and business men Nigeria is amongst one of the best in terms of self made men, but when it comes to government provided employments like in the civil service, public service etc it's a no go area.

---

And I would like to add that Nigeria is to me a political nation were everyone's interest is based on politics and that is why there are all ready to do what ever it takes claim political powers.

---

And also our schools are producing millions of graduates every year and 10% of all those graduates are able to secure a job for themselves while the remaining 90% became gangsters and roam the streets.

WHAT YOU WANT YOUR COUNTRY TO BE LIKE?

---

Indeed I know that no matter how hard we try, a country can never be 100% accurate but how I would want our country Nigeria to be like is that I would love our leaders to forget about their pride and focus on infrastructural development like building and renovating of schools, hospitals, companies etc so as to provide more job opportunities for our citizens.
