Why is gender equality necessary?

Gender Equality! throughout my life, this phrase is always remembered and echoed every year, in almost all corners of the world. The goal is to position the same rights and obligations in a worldly context, or, in simple words, equality.

Gender is the visible and inherent difference between the two types of gender that God created, namely the difference between men and women. Both have different physical characteristics, so it is easy to recognize.

In the world context, the thought arises that men are a little different and more dominant than men. This is considered gender discrimination, so Gender equality is always raised and fights to eliminate gender discrimination, especially for women.

It is different in the context of religion, especially Islam. Because there are rules that maintain the honor of women, so there are some things that distinguish men and women in certain things.

What does gender equality entail, and what are the advantages?

Gender equality is present to give the view that there must be equality for everyone, of course between men and women. This includes aspects of education, ability, or resources, as well as equal opportunities so that all are treated equally without any gender discrimination.

Gender equality is expected to present some things that are much better, of for example:

1. Increase social trust between men and women.
2. Suppress cases of violence and harassment that are usually experienced by women.
3. Equitable distribution of income in the economy, which does not focus on men.
4. Explore the broad potential of individuals found in men and women.
5. They have the same opportunity to advance the country, without prioritizing Gender.

Is gender equality crucial for all people, not just women?

Gender equality is born based on discrimination experienced by women, where decades ago women were often victims of violence and also unfair behavior. Restrictions on obtaining equal rights with men made many women of the time unable to develop themselves much more independently.

Currently, the condition has changed slightly with various rules and agreements, now women are given the same rights and obligations as men. So the effort to develop the ability and proficiency, in the act on a par with men.

But today gender equality is not only for women's struggle, because gender equality also belongs to men. In other words, gender equality belongs to both genders, that is, men and women to achieve equality and also equal opportunities in all aspects of life.

What are your thoughts on gender equality, specifically concerning the circumstances in your country?

In Indonesia, gender equality continues to be a campaign that is voiced every year, this aims to ensure that there is a balance in the form of participation from both genders. Several programs are carried out by the government to overcome the occurrence of social inequality and the level of participation in various sectors between men and women.

Referring to official data from the Indonesian Central Statistics Agency in 2024, the Gender Inequality Index often abbreviated as (IKG), it can be seen that there is a decrease in Gender inequality, which means that gender equality continues to increase in terms of equity and balance.

The basic thing that is done as mentioned above, that the government in Indonesia continues to make improvements in all dimensions. Improvements in all these dimensions include :

1. Cultural Sector.
2. Education Sector.
3. Legal Protection Sector.
4. Political Sector
5. Sector of the working world.

How to educate our children to understand this issue?

Understanding about gender equality is important to be informed early to children of all ages, this is expected to be their foundation in addressing the Equality. Basic things that may be informed include :

1. Provide understanding and also basic knowledge about equal rights and obligations for each gender. It can be done at home, school and in the community.
2. Avoiding or eliminating gender differences as an excuse for certain things.
3. Can be an example and role model in practicing justice in gender equality in everyday life.

Basically there are basic differences that occur between men and women as kondratnya, but for certain matters this can be equated in accordance with the ability, willingness and also needs. So that gender equality is not a problem and find solutions without having to conflict with basic religious values.

It needs understanding and also real practice to explain it all, so that later it can be well received by all parties. So that later gender equality can run well and continue to improve, and in the end the issue of gender equality is no longer heard.
