Comedy Movie I Like the Most : PK [2014]

The Brief Facts of PK (2014), The Movie of My Choice
There are many comedy movies that I think are good and worth reviewing and recommending. The comedy genre itself also has many hybrids, such as action comedy, romantic comedy, action romantic comedy, dark comedy, parody, sitcom, and so on. In this case, I decided to review an old movie titled PK, a Hindi-language film produced by Indian filmmakers and released in 2014.

PK was directed by Rajkumar Hirani, an Indian filmmaker who, five years earlier, had written, edited, and directed the dramedy (drama comedy) 3 Idiots, which received positive responses worldwide.

PK stars Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma, supported by Sushant Singh Rajput, Boman Irani, Saurabh Shukla, and veteran Indian actor Sanjay Dutt. It falls under the category of satirical comedy (a style of satire whereby the creator employs situational comedy to reveal societal truths or even any issue). This movie was highly successful, both critically and commercially, and has become one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time. According to the list of top-grossing films of 2014 released by boxofficemojo.com, which can be seen here, currently PK is ranked 78th in the list of highest-grossing films worldwide, with a gross income of US $100,370,104 (US $10,616,104 domestically and US $89,754,000 internationally). See screenshot image below.

That’s a brief fact about the movie.

Storyline

PK explores themes of religion, spirituality, superstition, and human nature through the eyes of an alien who lands on Earth. It is well-regarded for its thought-provoking narrative, humor, and strong performances.

An alien (played by Aamir Khan) lands in Rajasthan, India, on a research mission. However, his only communication device is stolen soon after he arrives, leaving him stranded on Earth with no way to return to his planet.

See the trailer below. Video embedded from YouTube.

In his efforts to find the device, PK, a name given to him because of his unusual habit of asking questions and often being mistaken for drunk ("peekay" in Hindi), explores various cities and meets Jaggu (played by Anushka Sharma), a journalist interested in his unique story.

PK soon realizes that humans have many different beliefs and superstitions, especially related to religion. With his innocence, PK starts asking fundamental questions about religion and beliefs that people around him often cannot answer.

The film uses humor and satire to explore social and religious issues in India. PK gained popularity with his controversial and provoking thought, was invited to a TV show where he questions religious leaders who take advantage of people's beliefs and shows how superstitions and rituals can be misleading.

What is equally interesting to me is that, although the film addresses serious themes, it is done in a comedic way, so people are not only left smiling but also find themselves slapping their foreheads and saying to themselves, "That's true!"

Additionally, as we all know, Indian films are synonymous with songs and dances. PK is no exception. However, with the unique idea of an alien stranded on Earth, PK presents a dance performed by the alien with bizarre movements that are automatically perceived by the audience as alien dance moves. I find this very entertaining and it greatly adds value to the film.

In the end, through his quest, PK not only finds his communication device but also helps people around him see their lives and beliefs from a new and more critical perspective.

What Would I Change About PK

What would I change? That’s not a tough question to answer. My answer is: I wouldn’t change a thing. The movie is great. It is perfect in many ways: the performance, the directing, the music, the dances, the storyline. No wonder it is positively acclaimed worldwide and record high profit.

And above all, this film addresses a topic that has long been a public issue. It is no secret that belief-based conflicts can easily arise and cause harm. This film comes from a genuine concern. It offers discourse and encourages people to rethink many aspects related to this topic.

Do I recommend this movie to others?

Of course, I would recommend this movie. But everyone has their own favourite type of movie. PK is a film that highlights disturbing social conditions, so only those who share similar concerns will find this movie worth watching. For example, my friends enjoy different types of movies and always invite me to watch them, but when I do, I find they don't suit me. So, personally, I would say this film is suitable for those who enjoy satirical comedy and are concerned with religious issues and the conflicts lurking behind differences, if you are one of them, then you should watch this movie.

Why Would I Recommend This Movie

As I have explained above, the film excels from many angles: the performances of the actors, the storyline, the cinematography, as well as its engaging and socially relevant theme.

My List of Some Must Watch Comedy Movies

Shaolin Soccer (2001) It's a Hong Kong comedy film directed by Stephen Chow, who also stars in it. The film combines elements of martial arts and soccer, blending action and comedy in a unique way. In the movie, Stephen Chow plays a former Shaolin monk who reunites with his old kung fu brothers to form a soccer team. Using their martial arts skills, they aim to win a major soccer tournament and prove that Shaolin techniques can be applied in sports. The film is known for its over-the-top humor, special effects, and imaginative action sequences.

Kung Fu Hustle (2004) is a Hong Kong action-comedy film directed by Stephen Chow, who also stars in it. Set in 1940s Shanghai, the film follows the story of a hapless gangster named Sing, who aspires to join the notorious Axe Gang. When Sing and his gang try to take over a rundown neighborhood, they encounter unexpected resistance from its seemingly ordinary residents. These residents are, in fact, skilled martial artists with incredible kung fu abilities. The film combines humor, stylish action, and CGI effects to create a vibrant and entertaining homage to classic kung fu cinema.
3 Idiots (2009) is an Indian comedy-drama film directed by Rajkumar Hirani and starring Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, and Sharman Joshi. The story follows three engineering students who embark on a journey to find their missing friend, Rancho, who challenged the conventional education system and inspired them to follow their passions.

Comedy Movies or Comedy Shows - Which One Is Better

I can’t choose between the two. I like some comedy movies and I also enjoy some comedy shows like Friends and Sheldon. The issue is not with the format (comedy movies or comedy shows) but with other aspects such as the story, cinematography, music, and so on.

There are comedy movies which I would rewatch again and again over time. There are also comedy shows I have completed several times and I keep on watching them now and then.

Oiya gimana, ada rencana ikut kontes 3kata?

Iya, lagi nulis-nulis.

Terus @ninaa04 baru gabung Mei 2022. satu lagi, @zul01, gabung steemit Oktober 2020. Semuanya, kecuali Firyfaiz adalah kenalan baru saya.

Ayo ikutan, jadikan tulisannya.

Iya, kapan tenggatnya.

2 Aghustus jam 2356.

Masih 3 hari. Masih aman. Enaknya kirim pas tenggat. Selalunya begitu.

Iya sih,,, pokoknya ikutan meramaikan.

Iya Pak. InsyaAllah meunan. Meutamah kenalan. So teupu na umu panyang na kesempatan jeut tajiiep kupi bak saboh meja.
