Steemit Engagement Challenge S6/W2 - What Steps would you Take to Save the Soil?
Hello Steemians!
Saving the soil simply means to save life because liquid, organic matter, gases, air, minerals and organisms are mixed together in soil and give support to life on Earth through growth.

Soil consist of four various types which are; loamy, sandy, clay and silt and all passes through different stages which are; solid stage, soil with air in the pore stage and soil with water in the pore stage. It is the texture, proportion, different kinds of minerals and organic composition that can be used to classify the soil.
Soil also plays some important role in our lives, in plants and animals.
Now, let's see the importance of soil and how we can save it.
- Good source of water filtration
- It supports landscape in terms of flood and drought
- It stores carbon
- It regulate the Earth's climate
- It is important for agricultural purposes (good for healthy plant growth by holding the necessary nutrients needed).
- It is important for humans in terms of building and food production.
It is necessary to save the soil because it contains various nutrients that are important to us. There are many ways in which we can save our soil.
Till the Garden: by tilling the garden, it will protect the soil from depleting and it allows the nutrients to spread through the soil.
This will help the plants to mounds between each row and water will soak the crops planted instead of washing out the top and going away with topsoil.
Soil Amendments: This is done by adding missing nutrients to eroded soil just to regain the correct chemical balance of the soil.
Salt, peat or organic fertilizers can be used as amendments. Before applying any amendments to the soil it is advisable to know the properties of that soil.
Planting: planting too can also help in saving the soil. For example; trees protects the soil; the root of the soil holds and increase the ability of it being able to absorb water and also protect it from the risk of wind erosion.

Watering of Dry Soil: it is good to water the soil when the soil's surface is dry because not all plants can tolerate dryness and some needs water (damp soil) to be able to survive during dry season.

During this season in my country (Nigeria), soil need excess water in order for the plant to grow well.

Soil plays vital role in our day-to-day encounter in terms of food source and environmental condition ( oxygen). It is necessary we save our soil from erosion, flood, lack of nutrients and depletion.

I will answer your question and I hope it will be helpful.
You can identify the properties of the soil by touching and having a close view. There, you will be able to know which property is missing. The properties are physical ( like; the texture, temperature, color and structure), you can easily identify them.
