Help network I formed, neighbors for the grandparents.
The isolation the covid-19, due to the pandemic can harm the mental health of the elderly and if they are alone it is worse when they have no help.
Three weeks ago a very old neighbor who is alone with her little puppy, went to my apartment and wondered if I was going to go shopping, at that time I had no plans to go anywhere, but I asked her if she needed anything too I asked her if I can help her, she said she had no food and needed to buy food, I immediately offered to go buy her food for her, I told her to write down the list of things she needed.
She gave me the list and the money to buy food and other personal hygiene items.
I live in an urbanization that is made up of 17 buildings each one has 5 floors including the ground floor, each floor has four apartments, in total there are 340 apartments.
many years ago I was part of the condominium board and I had the wonderful opportunity to meet all the neighbors in this case the 340 families who live in this urbanization, thanks to this great opportunity I managed to meet families with more than 6 members in specific they used to be the couple owned the apartment one or two children but there were also the grandparents.
That family nucleus that consisted of dad, mom, children and grandparents and they lived in a three-bedroom apartment, due to the terrible situation that we currently live in our country, Venezuela, many couples with their children managed to flee and took refuge in other countries, such as Chile, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia among other countries and outside of Latin America, but unfortunately they left their grandparents alone in those apartments.
The opportunity that I had to belong to the condominium board allowed me to know who are the older adults who are alone and who do not have the support of other relatives precisely because they left the country.
It occurred to me to investigate who are all the grandparents who live in the urbanization and visit those grandparents who are alone, I also made a report to tell who have help from other people and who do not have it, a total of 62 elderly people who are alone in the apartments, there are 35 old people in apartments that have no one to help them.

In that sense I dedicated myself to seek support with other neighbors to help those grandparents twice a week.
Thanks to this initiative I managed to get 17 neighbours to collaborate, now we are 18 neighbours, in this way they also joined in and are now doing the shopping but also in a way I created a network of help within the urbanization.
I divided the number of apartments into three blocks and each block consists of 12 apartments, as we are 18 neighbors, so each one gets 2 to do the shopping for the food for the grandparents who live in 2 apartments.
For this support that we give to all these grandparents we do not charge absolutely nothing, just seeing the happy face of these grandparents makes us very happy. I say this for me, and I think the other neighbours who help me are happy about that too.
For me that is of great importance and it fills me with much joy that in the midst of this situation people are joining in to volunteer.
That the grandparents do not have to go out to make market, the grandparents are the ones who have the age where they are more vulnerable. we must take care of them.
Everything I collect in this publication will be used to buy food for a grandfather who is very low income and only lives on the pension which is very scarce.

Old age is a goal to a lot of us, and in some of our communities, it is believed that the way you treat an elderly determines how your old age will be.

You are doing great work. i am really impressed. Actually we all need to think about humanity and do something for humanity everyday. And this is the best example of humanity. I am also helping poor family around me, i am saying this because i want to show that everyone need to do this type of humanity work. And the work you are doing is a great example and inspiration for them who are willing to do help to needy people.

This is very helpful and thoughtful way to connects the community. In a way, it helps to easy off the burden from one family to another due to resource sharing.
