Implications of adapting to a new school year

Teachers fulfill multiple tasks in the teaching of our students, however there is a fundamental task that is to facilitate the adaptation of the student once a new school year begins, we know that having to face new changes involves a new sense of adaptation and adaptation, so it is essential that the teacher can put into practice the strategies that are necessary to facilitate this adaptation in the student.

The importance of students being able to successfully adapt to a new school year is because it has a favorable impact on the emotions that come with good academic performance.

My experience as a teacher has led me to conclude that a student who obtains excellent grades in his evaluations is a student who feels happy, therefore he is a student who has a happiness and well-being that will favorably impact both his academic performance and his state of mind.

Adapting to the new changes that a student may experience in a new school year implies being able to develop enough confidence to be able to believe in his abilities and academic gifts, no matter what difficulties he has to assume, what really matters is that he is completely convinced that he can adapt to the changes and meet the proposed academic objectives.

As teachers it is important to guide the student in the fact that they should not see the adaptation process only as a process in which they only have to get used to a new schedule, or have to get used to new teachers, in this sense of adaptation the student should be oriented to the fact that the adaptation to which they will be subject also implies an adaptation to the new contents due to the new subjects they will be taking.

A clear example of this is when a student who passed the second year of high school is a student who, when he/she goes to the third year of high school, will have to study new subjects such as physics and chemistry, which require the assimilation of new content to which they were accustomed, so it is likely that they will need new ways of studying and learning, so that adaptation becomes a process that involves the adaptation of multiple factors.

The teacher's advice and guidance to the student in the sense of preparing him/her for the adaptation to the new school year should be focused on convincing the student that he/she needs to sleep well, eat well, have organization and discipline, establish daily study routines, establish communicative routines with the teacher to facilitate the academic understanding of the subjects, have a good time management, but above all let him/her know that in case of any difficulty he/she will have the emotional support of the teacher for the most difficult moments in the adaptive process.

In conclusion I must say that a student who is oriented to a correct adaptation process to successfully assume a new school year is a student who seeks to have a significant learning in the new school year, and also to have a comprehensive development that goes far beyond academic aspects.
