Allow Great Changes in Life

The principle of polarity lies right in the middle. A thorough understanding of this principle allows for great changes in life. The principle of polarity says, verbatim: Everything is double, everything has two poles, everything, its pair of opposites, the similar and the antagonistic are the same, the opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; the extremes touch each other, all truths are half-truths; all paradoxes can be reconciled.

It is clearly explained that in the universe where we live everything is double, everything has its pair of opposites. Some are black-white man-woman hot-cold up-down east-west good-bad love-hate dirty-clean guilty-innocent. Our function in wanting to be happy should be to harmonize the opposites.

We come to planet earth to develop the ability to find the right balance between the different poles. We have to learn to stand right in the middle. The kybalion says that opposites are equal in nature, but that they differ in degree. To better understand this we must imagine a thermometer. In it we see how the mercury goes up or down the degree scale indicating the temperature of the environment. But here a key question arises. Where does the cold begin and where does the heat begin? The limit is not zero degree. When it's zero degrees it feels very cold on either of the two known centigrade or farenheit scales. According to the centigrade, for some people the cold starts at 15 degrees, for others at 10. The interpretation is completely subjective.

The final conclusion is that there is no difference between hot and cold. Both are extremes of the same thing, they are opposite poles, the only difference between them is the degree to which they are manifesting. When the thermometer marks the lower degrees, we have the sensation of cold. On the contrary, when the mark reaches higher degrees we say it is hot. But in essence, we are always talking about the same thing: Temperature.

As the Kybalion says, opposites are the same. When we see a good person and then compare them to another who is a bad person, we will know in essence that we are talking about the same thing but in different degrees of manifestation, each of them being located at one end. We all have different degrees of goodness and also of evil. Extreme people, for whom everything is black or white, have more work to do, because it is more difficult for them to be partial or to find the middle point. And what is the reason why we must learn to harmonize the opposites? The answer is simple: to find unity in everything.

Another part of this principle holds that extremes touch. To understand this, I want to quote it in a practical example: If I decide to always travel in an easterly direction and I could go all the way around the world, then I would end up at the same starting point. The question then arises: Where is the west? The most accurate answer according to this principle would be that east and west are the same. We must remember that as up is down as down is up, it is more likely that if I were to travel through the universe always in the same direction, I would eventually end up at my starting point. Everything in the universe has a cyclical circular motion.

But how does this part apply to everyday life? The answer is very simple, every time you find yourself living in an extreme situation, that is, you are located in one of the poles and you want to reverse or neutralize the situation, you must begin to create the energy of the opposite polarity. In this way, you will bring the thermometer to its midpoint.

This is very important because you cannot cross from one pair of opposites to another and expect a result at the first. If you wish to transmute a situation, you will have to use the energy involved in that pair, not another. On the other hand the principle of polarity holds that all truths are half-truths. In short, this means that no one on planet earth is in possession of the whole truth, but that we all have our share of truth. In other words, just as with the pieces of a puzzle, by joining our semi-truth with that of others, we will find the complete truth. That's why it's important to listen to others. You always learn something new from others.

When we find ourselves defending our point of view, in reality, we are mistaken because none of us is the bearer of the complete truth. When we criticize someone who thinks or acts differently from us, we are actually closing ourselves off from the possibility of learning another part of the truth. Each person, even if he or she seems to be mistaken, has his or her share of knowledge. Keeping our minds open will help us listen and learn another form of logic that will eventually lead us to find the middle point, that is, what we technically define as the harmonization of opposites.

Everything flows and ebbs, everything has its periods of advance and retreat, everything ascends and descends, everything moves like a pendulum, the measure of its movement to the right is the same as that of its movement to the left, the rhythm is the compensation.
