Hello Friends, I am here to present my achievement-4 task.

When I started my achievement 1, it was obvious my article was not really the best due to the visible absence of markdowns (formatting) but as I soldiered on in my subsequent achievements, @whitestallion was able to introduce me to some of the basic MARKDOWNS, hence the beauty of my write-ups were enhanced.

In this article, It will be my pleasure to touch on a silent but conspicuous issue bothering our society. This article was laid to my mind after a brief discussion with a friend weeks back. The need to highlight this issue and give it all the voice it requires should be paramount and save us more rather than keep mum on it.

In a developing country like ours (Nigeria), the course to support the Girl-Child has not been given the topmost attention hence the danger ahead of us to deal with.
Yes, we have seen symposia, lectures and media talks on girl child even as they celebrate 11th of October every year, but a relatively implementation plan to match action with talks has not being fantastic in this drive. Thus, the need to revive our consciousness in this drive to be alert and participate in our own little way.

WHO IS A GIRL CHILD

This is a young biological female within the age ranges of birth to about 18-years. This happens to be the most vulnerable and preparatory stage of her life which births the foundation she could stand before entering the "young-adult " cycle of 18-years and above.

CHALLENGES OF A GIRL CHILD

There are many challenges which the Girl-child are confronted with in the Country but my scope of article would be limited to few. The girl child is generally confronted with gender discrimination, gender based labor, early marriages and sexual abuse. Other challenges are Lack of education, genital mutilation etc.

Early Marriages

This issue are peculiar to regions and predominately reported as they unfold. The issue of early marriages are largely seen from the Northern region of the country as this may have to do with culture and practices. Vesico-Vagina Fistula(VVF) problems are largely resultant effects of early marriages in the Girl-Child.

VVF is a medical condition where there's an opening between the Vagina and Bladder (urine Storage facility) which causes uncontrolled urine leakage/discharge from vagina. Physically, psychologically, emotionally and also socially, it is a major form of distress as patients keep contending with urine leakage from the vagina. Eventually, most of the affected Girl-Child are ostracized because of the nature of the disease. But in view of this, the only way to cure VVF is through surgical operation which only few have the financial capacity to afford it.

Child Sexual Abuse (Rape)

This is the most worrisome and commonly perceived issue in our society now void of regions and religions. There are many misconceptions surrounding Child Sexual Abuse, which makes it difficult to handle and reducing its trend. Venues of incidence are limitless as it knows no bounds. Place of worship, hospitals, homes and schools are no exemption to this criminality. The Girl-Child is exposed to constant abuse and need all our collective efforts to protect them and put a stop to this roaring menace. During the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the issue of rape cases were seen to have gone to the skies with few convictions recorded so far.

We are all urged to lend more voice(s) to the issues challenging the Girl-Child as every life matters.
