Achievement 3 by @waqarahmadshah Task: Content Etiquette
I hope you are all doing good. So, I have been verified for my first two achievements and now I am back for my achievement 3 task which is related to plagiarism and Steemit content etiquette.
Plagiarism:
Plagiarism can be defined as stealing someone’s work without giving credit to the original author and then presenting it as your unique work.
“Plagiarism is the representation of another author's language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions as one's own original work”.source
How To Avoid Plagiarism:
Although plagiarism is not regarded as a crime but it is unethical no matter whether it is intentional or not. In intentional plagiarism, people steal other’s work on purpose but unintentional plagiarism is mostly caused by not knowing the community standards and rules. Plagiarism is thus a felony, whether committed purposefully or accidentally.
Tips:
Following tips can be helpful in avoiding plagiarism.
- Always try to write in your own words.
- Get the idea from someone’s work but write in your own words.
- Examples can be included in your articles to avoid plagiarism.
- You can use other writer’s content by writing it in a quoted statement if it is compulsory but you must give credit to original author by mentioning the source.
For example,
“The word plagiarism comes from a Latin word for kidnapping. You know that kidnapping is stealing a person. Well, plagiarism is stealing a person's ideas or writing. You wouldn't take someone's lunch money or bike, right? Well, someone's words and thoughts are personal property, too.”
