Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the pretension of others work as one's own work. The word plagiarism came from Latin word "plagiare" which means abduct. Plagiarism is like stealing someone's work whether it is an idea, an art, media, visuals recreation and literature.

This concerns the original authorship. It also indirectly surpresess the plagiarist's creativeness, voice and making him/her difficulty to think on their own.
Plagiarism is the severe violation of academic research and consequences lead to expulsion from the university.

Causes of plagiarism:

• Internet gives different kinds of information, it advantages to growing plagiarism. The availability of information on internet increase the stealing of other's ideas deliberately and some are accidentally.

• Lack of skills to create own content.

• To Make profit by stealing notable author's content.

Plagiarism types:

• Complete plagiarism: stealing someone's idea and presenting one's own work. Its intellectual theft.

• Direct plagiarism: copying/ stealing the text, word for word.

• Paraphrasing plagiarism: copying/ stealing text with some alterations. Terminology may be differed but the idea/thought behind it remains same.

Plagiarism mostly occurs in the following forms:

• Copying the information without alteration. This form of plagiarism can be avoided by using quotation marks and giving proper citation source.
  For example , the below texted is copied word to word , so we use quotation marks and gave original author's citation.

"Tobacco use is cited as the leading preventable cause of death in the United States, making tobacco prevention an essential health priority." Sentence from Smith, B. N., Bean, M. K., Mitchell, K. • Copying the words/text with some changes. This is called paraphrasing. Its like writing information and words from a source/idea in our own words. This can be avoided by giving appropriate citation.
  Example: "I'm not afraid of the guy who knows 10000 kicks, but I'm scared of the guy who practiced the kick 10000 times."By Bruce Lee. The above phrase is altered. But the original phrases is in citation. If we open the links , there we can
  see original context.

In this way, by providing appropriate citation which gives author's credit, plagiarism can be reduced

Always aim to contribute original content so that it increase one's creativeness, voice.
Whenever we use other's work, let us give acknowledge by appropriate citation inorder give credit to original author. It also engage the audience into original content.
