Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the act of presenting someone else's work or ideas with or without their consent, complete or without acknowledgment. All published and unpublished material, whether in manuscript, printed or electronic form, falls under this definition. Theft can be intentional or reckless, or unintentional. Deliberate or negligent plagiarism is a disciplinary offense under the examination rules.

Common types of plagiarism

As I have said before, theft is a dishonesty that seeks to make someone else's work their own.
It is a form of immorality that can wreak havoc on writers, editors and academic researchers.

However, there are several types of theft and not all of them are created equal. Some do not even happen on purpose.

In this work, I will talk about the seven (7) most common types of plagiarism, including examples, so that you can avoid plagiarism in your writing.

  • Mosaic or patchwork plagiarism
  • Paragraph crossing
  • Self plagiarism
  • Accidental plagiarism
  • Complete plagiarism
  • Direct or verbal plagiarism
  • Source-based plagiarism
After listing the seven (7) common types of theft, I would like to go into detail and explain each of them one after the other. Let's start now so that we can distinguish between this type of plagiarism.

Mosaic or patchwork plagiarism

With this type of theft, someone else's work is only described without proper reference. This is often difficult to detect because the stolen material is linked to many different sources, including the author's own ideas and perspectives.
This type of para-freshening can be done with one or more means. The author may try to change the structure of the sentence or find out its origin by using synonyms. However, taking care of another piece is still plagiarism, even if the words are slightly altered and combined with the original thought.

Paraffrasing plagiarism

  • Parafrasing, or increasing theft, is the most common type of theft. This is similar to the style of mosaic theft mentioned above. The difference, however, is that copied work does not combine with new concepts and research. When you put the original idea into your own words, the borrowed content stays the same throughout the new section.

Self-plagiarism

: Also known as self-theft, self-theft occurs when you copy your writing, whether intentionally or not. Often the person involved in the robbery himself summarizes or renews his work instead of writing a completely new article on the same subject from the beginning.
Many people think that stealing is harmless because you are not stealing from anyone else. Just yourself However, this type of theft can be just as harmful as any other.

For example, if you are writing web pages and you are caught stealing, you may be penalized by Google for duplicate content.

Or, if you are writing for clients, your words may not be relevant to you. If this is a breach of your client's agreement, it could result in potential legal issues.

Accidental plagiarism

  • Theft is not always intentional. It is still considered plagiarism when a person copies someone else's writing without quoting their source, incorrectly quoting the source or accidentally leaving quotation marks. Just because an error or incorrect reference was accidental does not mean that the theft did not occur. That's why it's important to check any work and give credit to your source when in doubt.

Full plagiarism: -

Full plagiarism is more common in educational writing than in content marketing or other types of online writing. This type of theft occurs when a person tries to submit a complete research paper without proper attribution.
For example, this involves copying and pasting the actual work into the correct words. The only thing that has changed is the author's name.

Direct plagiarism:

Direct plagiarism, also known as plagiarism, is a deliberate and immoral form of plagiarism. As the name implies, the text is replaced by a new piece by stealing word for word. The author then tries to convey the content as he sees fit. One or two words can be changed, but this type of plagiarism is so obvious that it is considered paraphrase.

Source-Based plagiarism

: This type of theft refers to incidents involving misleading sources. For example, the author may have two sources of information but only one reference. Another form of source-based plagiarism would be when the author cites a non-existent or incorrect source.
The worst kind of theft is when the sources are fabricated. Making information such as study results or statistics is extremely misleading and can be harmful in the case of medical materials.

What is the easiest way to avoid plagiarism?

Based on my own understanding and conclusions, I think the easiest way to avoid plagiarism is to give credit to the original owner of the work. In addition, all sources must be properly referenced for the work you have used. That way we can avoid any kind of theft completely.

This work has not helped me in any way to avoid all kinds of theft. This topic has generally taught me about the types of theft and how to avoid it completely. I would like to sincerely commend Stesimonnwigwe for his tutoring and guidance throughout the entire process of writing and understanding the do's and don'ts of the Steemit platform. I hope to learn more from it over time.
