According to University of Oxford

Plagiarism is presenting someone else’s work or ideas as your own, with or without their consent, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement. All published and unpublished material, whether in manuscript, printed or electronic form, is covered under this definition.
Source

What is plagiarism?

Plagiarism is taking credit of someone else's work as your own. Copying from anywhere like websites, research papers, books, friends etc. It's like stealing someone's thoughts, ideas, thinking, etc. and taking credit for their efforts. This is completely illegal however if you mention the source it will not be considered illegal. Plagiarism is the passing off of another author's language, ideas, thoughts, or expressions as one's own original work.
Plagiarism is considered academic dishonesty and a violation of journalism.
Ethics. In simple terms I should say that plagiarism is copying the work of others in your own research.

Why is plagiarism wrong?

Creating any work requires a lot of mental effort and that creation becomes the intellectual property of the creator.
Intellectual property includes ideas, inventions, original works of authorship, words, slogans, designs, figures, etc.

The owner of intellectual property has a greater right to reap the fruits of his creation. Its production is the result of great mental effort. It is unethical to use someone's work without permission or without giving credit.

In addition to being unethical, plagiarism can amount to cheating and fraud. It can also invite charges of copyright infringement if the work copied without permission is protected by copyright.

How to avoid plagiarism?

Simply don't copy and paste. If you quote from somewhere, use proper quotations and cite your source as well. If you try to put someone else's ideas into your own words, you should do so only when the ideas are relevant. You may think that if you write someone else's ideas in your own words, you don't need to cite them, but that's completely wrong, you have to cite the original source even if you quote someone else's ideas. Write in your own words, information that is common knowledge SKY IS BLUE does not need to be quoted.

Types of plagiarism

Outright Plagiarism: The word itself says outright means content completely stolen from others. If a person steals or copies the work of another without giving any proper reference or source of his own, it is called outright plagiarism.

Self-plagiarism: This is when someone uses someone else's previous assignment work without the author's permission.

We should avoid plagiarism because it is totally unethical.
You are your best self.
Don't copy anyone.

I have read the content etiquette on Steemit and understand them well. Now I will try my best to follow everything.

It is nice to see you've learnt about plagiarism and I hope you keep away from it.

It is a big crime to take / claim what is not yours. Just like at home, when you take what is not given to you and go about boost. Therefore it is very much hated on this platform and you are expected to stay far away from it.
