How would you feel if someone steals your shoes or clothes?

Not good, right?

The above example is about stealing a tangible thing but it can happen to your intangible possessions too. In legal terms, it is called intellectual property. When someone steals your intellectual property and presents it is as their own, it is called Plagiarism.

"Plagiarism: is the act of stealing another person’s intellectual property (IP) which includes ideas, inventions, original works of authorship, words, slogans, designs, proprietary information, etc. and using them as your own without proper acknowledgment and/or permission of the original author or inventor."

Whether your entire work is copied or even a part of it, it is still called plagiarism.

If you are impressed with someones' work, promote it by citing the source, it is better than copying and presenting it as your own.

Moreover, we can not achieve long-term success by copying others' work, one cannot fake it for long. If we are copying others' work, it would be difficult for us to give answers on a copied content, sooner or later it would be revealed.
On the other hand, if it is our original content, we would be confident to face any questions thrown at us.

If we are citing the source, it is easier for a reader to check the original post for more information. Citation also brings authenticity to the content.

Spining your old work and presenting as if it is a new work so as to gain more incentives is also called a case of self plagiarism.

Any act that is not promoting orginal content or ideas comes under Plagiarism.
