Hi steemians. Here today, I present to you my knowledge of content etiquette on the steemit platform.

The steemit platform as we all know is a space for creativity and earning from this platform is based on the originality of your content. This is an entire concept to be adhered.

  • Proof of Brain Concept:

This concept on steemit speaks of the originality of one's content. A post created by the bloggers should be an original creation as a person's thoughts are prime and creative ideas come from the brain, hence the name of this concept.
In order to hold on to this Concept which is as well a basic principle, plagiarism should be avoided at all costs.

What is Plagiarism?🤔

PLAGIARISM is the act of making use of a person's ideas, material or works either directly or indirectly without their knowledge or without giving them the much deserved credits.
Simply put, it is stealing a person's works and posing as the author. The reason for the steemit platform is for it's users to earn from the posting of their creative works and ideas. Originality is therefore a key principle to be followed judiciously on the platform or in the communities.

But the concept of plagiarism isn't that simple, it is a spectrum and can be seen in several forms.

Forms of plagiarism

  • Global Plagiarism:
The act of utilizing an entire piece of work, material or idea from an original author and taking all the credits for the work.
  • Verbatim plagiarism:
Here, an author's text is copied word for word without a source citation. This form is serious and very much unallowed on steemit.
  • Self plagiarism:
In this form, an author reuses his/her own words or ideas from an old work that had once been posted.
  • Paraphrasing plagiarism:
Just as the word goes, it is basically the rephrasal or twisting of a person's words or ideas into a suitable form without giving them credits for it. It is a serious form.
  • Mosaic plagiarism:
In this form, ideas are taken from several different works and put together for usage without citation of the sources.
  • Incorrect citation:
In this form, the individual makes use of the work but gives an incorrect or incomplete information as to where he got the idea or words. By withholding the actual source information, credits isn't given to the original author.
As much as plagiarism isn't allowed, citation is of great necessity on the platform and in the communities.
For example: instead of saying plainly that,
The way to a man's heart is through his stomach.
    Which is not your original idea you could put it as;

The way to a man's heart is through his stomach.

This shows that you have quoted from someone and thus you didn't claim the credits for yourself..
Plagiarism on steemit could cost you a lot.

  • it could reduce the interest of curators and readers
  • your post could be flagged
  • you might lose followers and
  • worst of it you might lose the confidence and trust of the community members.

Let's all say no to plagiarism and nod our heads to creativity
#brainpower.
I have read and understood the steemit etiquette on steemit community and I will my best to embrace them.
