What is Markdown?

I will be citing from wikipedia

Markdown is a lightweight markup language for creating formatted text using a plain-text editor. John Gruber and Aaron Swartz created Markdown in 2004 as a markup language that is appealing to human readers in its source code form.

We saw a word Lightweight

And according to Wikipedia,

Lightweight markup languages were originally used on text-only displays which could not display characters in italics or bold, so informal methods to convey this information had to be developed. This formatting choice was naturally carried forth to plain-text email communications.

To my own understanding Markdown when added on documents, posts or blogged informations and news brings out professionalism in the content. They could be seen as special Characters and features already programmed.

How do I format text in Markdown?
Below are common markdown syntax:

Note: By Syntax we mean rules or formats guiding the application of Markdown on texts.

• Applying exteries as bullets for numbering
• Using hyphens for italicizing
• Applying Hasteries for you headings and sub headings
• Using inequality signs like the greater then for citations etc

Markdown are applied to make emphasies , listing, highlighting, tables etc

Heading Markdown :

Applying Hasteries deffrienciates a heading from the normal body of the write up example:
