Hi everyone,

It is with great pleasure that i write my achievement 3 task, i have written my achievement 1 & 2, and all lessons have been learnt. Now Achievement 3 basically handles our content etiquette which is otherwise know as Plagiarism. In this post, i will be talking about:

• What plagiarism is.
• Types of plagiarism.
• Punishment for plagiarism and,
• How to avoid it.

WHAT IS PLAGIARISM?
This is defined as the act of stealing or passing another man's work or idea as your own. In other words,
Plagiarism is presenting someone else’s work or ideas as your own, with or without their consent, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement.

TYPES OF PLAGIARISM.

DIRECT PLAGIARISM.
This is an intentional form of plagiarism that occurs when a person takes the exact words of the writer ie, word-for-word, without any attribute or quotation mark or putting the source of the article.

MOSAIC PLAGIARISM
This is an unintentional form of plagiarism which occurs when a person borrows phrases from a source without using quotation marks, or finds synonyms for the author’s language while keeping to the same general structure and meaning of the original.

SELF PLAGIARISM
This occurs when a writer submits his or her own previous work, or mixes parts of previous works, without permission from all the professors involved. It also applies to submitting the same piece of work for assignments in different classes without previous permission from both professors.

ACCIDENTAL PLAGIARISM.
Accidental plagiarism occurs when a person neglects to cite their sources, or misquotes their sources, or unintentionally paraphrases a source by using similar words, groups of words, and/or sentence structure without attribute.

PUNISHMENT FOR PLAGIARISM.

• Legal punishment
  There are legal consequences for a person to consider if they are caught or found guilty of plagiarising the content of another author, consequences like fines or jail sentence can be issued to the person.
• When a student/professor commits plagiarism, The academic reputation of a college or university is put into jeopardy and this has the further knock on effect of damaging the universities brand on the global market which could prevent international students from enrolling.

HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM

The best way to avoid plagiarism is to learn and employ the principles of good academic practice from the beginning of your university career. Now Avoiding plagiarism is not about making sure that your references are all correct, or maybe changing enough words so that the reader will not notice your paraphrase; it is about deploying your academic skills to make your work as good as it can be.
