What I understand on Basic Security in Steem

  • How important security keys are?
Security keys are the keys given after we create an account. Steem accounts are valuable, it contains your personal information, activity, and wallet. Keys are given in order to have a secured and protective account. Logging in requires a designated key to access our accounts, it serves as a password. Keys is a big help in preventing hackers or any unauthorized access to our accounts.

"I mention above the word designated key, this is the reason why."

  • Different keys given
There are different keys given. These are the Posting key, Memo key, Active key, Owner key and the special Master password. Each has different functions or shall I say, different accessibility once used.

POSTING KEY - From the word itself posting. It is used to log in to accounts and allowed us to do social actions such as posting, commenting, and voting.

MEMO KEY - It is used to decrypt or unencrypt private transfer memos. If decrypt it shows different characters it is equal to show password command. While unencrypt will look like a series of bullets *******************************.

ACTIVE KEY - It will be used for wallet-related actions or transactions, such as transferring SBD/STEEM or powering up steem and powering down steem.

OWNER KEY - This key very important, it is used if you want to reset all other keys. It was recommended to keep offline at all times.

MASTER PASSWORD - Master(sensei), from the name itself, is the master, the most powerful key of them all. Powerful which can generate all other keys. The only time you need to use this key is when you are going to recover your account which we literally don't want to happen.

What will happen if you lost your password/keys?

  • You can no longer open your account. There is nothing can do to recover it. Remember the rules!

The good thing is, there are ways to avoid losing your passwords/keys.
Save a copy. Have it backed up, multiple backups

  • save it through email.
  • copy it to your messenger, sticky notes, notepad, Microsoft word, excel, etc.
  • Save it in a USB/external storage.
  • print it and hide it in a safe place such as a drawer, cabinet, etc.
  • print and laminate it to keep it neat and become water-resistant and hide it.

It is safe to say that at least 2-3 ways you should have it.

Before it ends
Time to review our activity.

Big shoutout to @jassennessaj and @julstamban for conducting an online virtual meetup. I highly recommend you check the post here. This meetup was intended for us beginners to familiarize and understand the steemit platform. They also include this topic about the account keys so I am confident enough to publish this post today.
