What Is Plagiarism?

Plagiarism is the use of another person's work as if it is yours especially when it is not cited or quoted.
In a nutshell, Plagiarism is stealing if an individuals or an author's work, thoughts and ideas with the claim of belonging without acknowledging the author

What Are The Types Of Plagiarism

There are many types of Plagiarism. These include

Direct plagiarism: This is when a person deliberately copy's an author's work, ideas and expression without citing the source or crediting the source

Mosaic plagiarism: When a person fails to include a source or quotation to a work or idea of another author or an internet.

Self-plagiarism: This is when an individual copies from his or her past idea, work or expression that has been written down in the past. For instance, when a student copies an assignment from his or her past Assignments without the knowledge of the teachers.

Accidental plagiarism: When a person mistakenly quote another sourced material or makes a wrong or inadequate cite, this is considered as plagiarism. Plagiarising without knowing it.

• Paraphrasing the original content without credit
• Giving incorrect information about the source or quotation
• Copying a source material and adding or mixing it with your own knowledge

How To Avoid Plagiarism

We can avoid plagiarism mostly with "the proof of brain". Creating our own original content so that the value might not diminish. We can avoid Plagiarism in the following ways

1. Use correct and appropriate source whenever we use another person's idea

2. Making sure to use quotation marks for all quotes

3. Crediting the source of the information by citing the material properly

4. Paraphrasing someone else' idea or thought in your own words but still making use of credit

Citation

This is the credit given to a sourced material either from the internet or from someone's thought, ideas and expression. For instance, we cite to avoid plagiarism and to still maintain the value of the sourced information.

When we get an information from a website, e.g
https://www.google.com
https://www.wikipedia.org
https://www.opera.com/mobile/mini, etc, we try as much as possible to include the source or link of our information. This is know as Citation
This is also praiseworthy. It also involves proper quotation (“”) of a person's idea.

Example of citation
A bag is so important because "When you go out for the purpose of marketing or shopping, you need to carry a bag, such that you do not face hurdles while you carry the items home.”source
