Theft in general is known as taking into possession what isn’t yours without permission or concern of the owner. Theft comes in diverse ways and types and this has brought up to the talk of plagiarism. Just like in the normal world of humans and in society where people steal personal belongings of others, the same applies in the world of writing and this is called plagiarism.

Plagiarism simply means the usage of someone’s work as your own without acknowledging the person or seeking permission. Plagiarism comes in different forms and it doesn’t matter whether it was done deliberately or not. Plagiarism is not advised in any case and in order to keep a very good reputation one needs to do away with plagiarism.
In this great world we are in (STEEMIT) plagiarism is a very big offence and it can result in you getting down voted and even been kicked out of contests and communities which is not the best. To simply avoid this consequences, just do away with plagiarism.

Types of plagiarism

Plagiarism comes in different ways and forms. Below are some types;

  • Direct plagiarism:
  • This is the common type of plagiarism and its widely known as the Ctrl+c, Ctrl+v. In this type the original work is duplicated without the permission of the owner and used without changing a single word or sentence.
  • Mosaic plagiarism:
  • In this type, the original work is patched and modified by adding words and sentences to make it look different to suit their own agenda without making reference to the original author.
  • Self plagiarism:
  • This type of plagiarism occurs when a user reuses his own work for a different purpose without making reference to the original work. It doesn’t make sense because it’s your own work yes but to give more information about what you are talking about to the user, its necessary you make reference to the original.
  • Unconditional plagiarism:
  • content in this type of plagiarism is copied unwillingly and its mostly termed as accidental. Even though it was not done intentionally it still falls under being a plagiarized content.

Why do people plagiarize?

It’s quite obvious why people plagiarize and this is because, they want to have quality content but do not want to put in work. Also others plagiarize on the basis of the reputation to the original author which is very wrong. I have a believe that no matter who you are you can create quality content and it will match up with that of others and that’s one opportunity steemit is giving to people.

How can plagiarism be stopped?

This is simple, plagiarism can be stopped when credit is given to the original author and content. This can be done by, citing the copied text in your work and also putting them in quotation marks (“”). Also when paraphrasing, more of your words are needed to be inserted other than just writing synonyms of words you intend changing. Plagiarism can be stopped if one uses his own original content and cite copied contents as well.

Remarks

I can boldly accept to the fact that, "I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and will do my best to embrace them".
