ABSTRACT

The world of content writing is getting bigger each day, with a lot of lazy writers finding it easy to copy another person’s intellectual work without citing the source thereby infringing their copyright law. Writers, content creators and curators are now more careful about their work, but the ocean is too big to catch a tiny fish of plagiarizing content. That leads us to another question, what is plagiarism.

What Is Plagiarism

“Plagiarism is the representation of another author's language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions as one's original work.”^Source Whenever you copy other authors work without properly giving credit to such an author, you’re plagiarizing the content. In some countries like Poland and India, plagiarism and copyright infringement is termed as a crime. Even if it isn’t considered a crime, it’s synonymous with stealing other peoples intellectual property without their consent or giving credit to them.

A well-written article or content should be well cited if the author ever takes content from another author and this is how to do it. Citation is done properly y the use of quotation mark/sign or using the HTML code >. These two gives readers of such content the impression that you’re quoting someone else work. It is also needed to give an example of these two scenario.

The first is the use of > and a space bar before writing the copied content, the second is of a quotation mark/sign “’’.

The next is sourcing your copied work properly whenever an author copy content that is not his, it's important to state the exact location on the web where he got the content from, not a general form like ‘copied from Google’ or ‘copied from Wikipedia’. Authors need to state where, and that is where the HTML code for sourcing comes in for those who are writing on the blockchain. This not only applies to content alone but pictures and videos.
