BASIC SECURITY ON STEEM

Steem platform provides 04 security keys which are for different functions related to different activities. These keys includes: active key, master key, memo key, posting key. The is also the Tron public key and Tron Private key. The STEEMIT platform security system can be best explain in the form of answered questions like I’ve done below with steps where necessary.

QUESTION 1: Have you retrieved all your steemit keys?
All my steemit keys have been saved. Immediately I downloaded the steemit keys document, I kept it in different locations and printed out a copy.

QUESTION 2: Do you know the functions and restrictions of each of these keys?
I’ve studied the functions and restrictions of each of these keys from achievement task 1 tutorials.

1. Master key: this is the most important key in terms of security on the steemit platfrom as it can be used to access the steemit account and retrieve all the other keys in case they are missing or something.

2. Posting key : this is one of the most used keys on the steemit platform as one is required to engage on activities. It is used for upvoting a post, downvoting a post, and most importantly for posting, also editing and commenting on a post and finally to mute an account.

3. The active key: this is the key for transactions on a steemit account. Used to vote for a witness, converting SBD, power up or down, also used to carry out activities that concerns profile and cover photo as well as transfer of tokens.

4. Owners key: it is use for the resetting and recovery of other keys in case of malfunctions or unscrupulous activity.

5. Memo key: this key deals with end to end encryption informations (messaging) which involves viewing and sending.

6. Tron Account keys. There are two Tron account keys which are Tron public key (used for transfers) and Tron Private key ( use for voting and freezing as well as transfers).

Question 4: Do you know about the transfer of steem tokens between accounts?
Below are the steps one can use to transfer steem tokens from one account to the other. The photos below each step aids its description 👌

STEP 1: login to your account and take “wallet”

STEP 2: click on “STEEM” a small page will pop up and take on “transfer”

STEP 3: fill in the columns on the right. First column is your user name, second column fill the recipient’s username which in this case I used “Salem”, third column is the amount of token and then click on “NEXT”

STEP 4: write a desired memo in the memo column which will be public of course and then take “ok” to initiate the transfer.

QUESTION 5: Do you know how to power up STEEM?
You can power up STEEM using the following steps just like on transfer but this time it will be a little different and simpler.

STEP 1: login to your account and click on “wallet”

STEP 2: click on “STEEM” and select “power up”

Step3: Enter the amount of tokens on the amount column to convert to STEEM and click on “power up”

STEP 4: click “ok” to initiate the power up

With all this knowledge you can manage your steemit account to an extent 😉
