Mango Tree

Mango is a kind of delicious fruit. Its color is green when raw and yellow when ripe. There are about 35 species of mangoes in the whole world. There are different types of mango, such as Fazli, Langra, Gopalbhog, Khirsa, Aruna, Amrapali, Mallika, Subarnarekha, Misridana, Nilambri, Kalibhog, Kanchamitha, Baromasi, Triphala, Haribhanga, Chhatapara, Guthali etc. The mango tree is considered as the symbol of the national tree of Bangladesh.

Mango trees are usually 35-40m tall and 10m in diameter. Mango trees live for many years. Some species of mango trees can be seen to catch mangoes at the age of 300 years. Its main roots are about 8 m deep under the ground. The leaves of the mango tree are evergreen, simple, 15-35 cm long and 6-16 cm wide; The young leaves are reddish-pink in color. Mango buds come out from the tip of the stalk. It takes about 3-6 months from flowering to ripening of mango. Currently, an organization called "Fozli Mango Pack" is working on the development of mango in Bangladesh.

Mango tree has been cultivated in the Indian subcontinent for thousand of years. Mango was introduced in East Asia in the 5th century and cultivation began much later in the 10th century. After the Indian subcontinent and some countries in East Asia, other countries in the world have climates similar to the Indian subcontinent, such as Brazil, West Indies or Mexico, the introduction and production of mango began much later.

At present, mango is cultivated in almost all the warmer climates of the world. About half of this mango production is in India alone. Other countries that cultivate mangoes after this include China, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Australia, North-South and Central America, South-West and Central Africa etc.

Chapainawabganj district of Bangladesh is famous for mango. "Kansat Mango Market" is known as the biggest mango market in Bangladesh and Asia. Mango is very tasty and in demand in some special places including Makimpur, Chakkirti, Losipur, Jalibagan, Khanabagan.

This mango tree I planted in my backyard last year. It is a mango tree of Haribhanga variety. I planted 2 mango trees together. One in the yard of my house and the other at the gate of the house. This is the first mango in the yard tree out of 2 trees. Some mangoes have been destroyed by the storm. I have a few mangoes on my tree now.
