in Steem For Bangladeshlast year

Hello esteemed Steemians of the Steem Bangladesh community, I hope you are all doing great and hope your day isn't a bad one. Today, I will be participating in the Steemit Engagement Challenge week 4 which is organized by the Steem Bangladesh community and titled "A Terrible Day of my Life". Join me as we journey on this post to see that terrible and terrifying day of my life.

What was the terrible day of your life? What happened to you that day?

This question didn't need a lot of thinking for me because it was a one-time experience, and I do not hope to have such an experience again. It happened about 2 years ago when I wanted to travel from Lagos to Abuja by road. I have never done it before but my friend told me that road trip was fun. At this time in Nigeria, news about Bandits kidnapping people was all over the internet and news, Herdsmen killing people was something we couldn't do without hearing on the news, and terrorism wasn't something that anyone didn't have an idea about. I summoned courage because I wanted to also have that road trip experience.

The journey was meant to last for about 9 hours, so I hopped into the car. The car carried 7 persengers and the driver made us 8 in the car. The journey began around 9:00 am, so I was saying to myself that beore 9:00 pm, I would have been in the city of Abuja.

Our journey began, then i noticed that the driver wasn't moving at the expected speed. I began to ask why, but he said that he doesn't like travelling with a high speed. My friend told me to relax, that the journey was just starting. Soon we were at the middle of nowhere and it was past 7:00 pm and the car began to jerk. Oh! my worst nightmare I thought to myself. I asked for the location, and we were told we were in Kogi State.

The driver parked the car and asked us to wait for him to come. While waiting, I walked down quite a far place to get something to chew, and spoke English to the woman to help sell Coca-Cola for myself and my friends. Luckily for me, the woman spoke yoruba. She told me that she noticed our car parked at a spot, an d warned that we leave the car and pick our valuables if it was getting dark because Bandits are known for attacking people who had faulty cars in lonely areas.

When I got back to the car spot, it was getting dark so I told everyone what the woman said. Immediately, we took our valuables and left the car spot to a place where people were residing. We called the driver and told him of our decision so he can come pick us there. While we were going to the area that was more populated, we saw a bus that arrived with men who held guns. They were scattering and searching the car and were speaking in languages that we did not understand. Immediately, we took to our heel, and ran for our lives. When we got to the village where the woman who told me was, and narrated our ordeal to the indigenes, they were happy that we excaped and said that it had become a practice for the bandits.

That was the day I recorded as the most terrible day of my life because I was about to lose my life to bandits.

Have similar terrible events happened repeatedly in your life? How do you keep yourself away from it if it happens? And do you still shudder when you remember that terrible day?

I have never experienced such an ordeal, and do not wish to have that experience again. Everytime I remember, I always shiver, and I am always grateful for the life that I have. Since that incident, i vowed to always take flight to any state that is more than 3 hours provided it has an airport, and would never travel at night. I have heard news of people being kidnapped, killed and molested by bandit, I was so happy that I didn't have to experience a bandit attack or kidnap. The people in the community says that the local hunters and the police are always engaging them in a gun battle from time to time, and they do not attack communities that are populated. I haven't had any other experience of such again, and do not pray to have such experience again in my lifetime.

What lessons have you learned from that terrible event in your life and what do you want to tell others about it?

That event made me had more value for my life, understand that we are all living for a purpose can this can be cut short at anytime due to events we cannot even tell. It made me value every minute spent on earth, and understand that people who have been victims of these bandits weren't careless, they were just unlucky. Since that say, I have kicked against night travel, and have warned people never to travel long distance in Nigeria at night. That event is an event I will not forget anytime soon.
