Greetings to all Steemains

I wanna I start writing to thank the entire team of steem for Bangladesh for this beautiful topic. I am very much excited to take part in this contest. Because I have had a dream to be a teacher since my childhood. My grandfather was a teacher, my father was a teacher and my 2 uncles was a teacher too. I have respected teachers and teaching since childhood. I have seen their dedication to this profession. Teaching is an ideal profession. I am preparing myself to take up teaching as a profession. Hopefully, I will get a chance to become a professional teacher soon, inshallah.

Whose teacher are you? Do you teach for a living?

I think this is the most beautiful question I have ever asked. I am not a professional teacher. Currently, I have two students. One is my elder sister's son and another is my helping hand (maid). Whom I call "Apa". One of my students is 11 years old and another student is 40 years old. Yes, I teach my student even though she is much older than me. She never studied. She does not know any language except her mother tongue. She can only speak in mother tongue, and cannot read or write any language.

I don't teach students for a living. I love teaching others what I know. Again, no, I do not teach for money. I teach them to help them. Without the light of education, one can not shine.

What challenges have you faced as a teacher?

I have faced many challenges in teaching my two students and still facing many challenges. One of my students is almost 40 years old and it is very difficult to teach her at this age. After I explained everything to her, she quickly forgot about it. I had to learn her the alphabet for a long time and since she works in different houses, she could not give time every day. It took a long time to teach her the alphabet. It was a challenge for me to teach her. But I did it. It took a long time but she can read Bengali sentences now.

My student writing Bangla Alphabet

Another student of mine named Nafiul Amin, I faced the biggest problem teaching him. He was 11 years old and had almost forgotten the n Bengali language as he had been away from Bangladesh for a long time. He was in Japan and studied at a Japanese school, so he learned Japanese very well. Later he returned to Bangladesh and enrolled in a school in Bangladesh. Since the government schools in Bangladesh are Bengali medium, he could not understand much about school studies. So, He came to me to study, especially Bengali. We had a communication gap then. He didn't understand Bengali properly and he also didn't understand English well. He was more proficient in Japanese and I didn't know Japanese. It was the most strenuous challenge in my teaching. But after a few months, he started to understand Bengali pleasingly and I also learned some sentences in Japanese. He once did his homework in Japanese and I couldn't make out the meaning. Below I am sharing that picture.

How do you create a learning environment that is both stimulating and supportive?

A learning environment should be the first concern of a teacher. I would like to point out some strategies for creating a learning environment for students that is both supportive and stimulating.

  • By keeping the classroom clean and well-lit. A clean environment is very important for keeping a student's attention. Student's attention is less in darkness or low light. People cannot be distracted in a bright environment. ( I read it somewhere)

  • By visualizing the learning content on the entire classroom wall. Painting pictures of famous people, places of interest, or words in the classroom will create a learning environment. This decoration will vary from class to class. For example, Cartoon characters will be painted on the walls of the children's classroom, and various rhymes, names, additions, multiplication, division, etc will be written.

  • By prioritizing creative answers and actions. Allowing a student to express his or her feelings and encouraging him or her to answer a question differently than everyone else. If a student can't draw a boat but can make it out of paper, that's an expression of creativity. He or she should be admired for making papeboatsat instead drawing a boat.

In the case of home tutors at the home

  • Greetings on meeting the student.

  • Talk to the student calmly and elegantly. Don't show anger or fuss for no reason. Sometimes not even if there is a reason.

  • Encouraging reading of various books apart from academic books and giving books as gifts.

What professional development opportunities have you pursued to improve your teaching practice?

To improve my teaching practice I have completed some specific courses on Coursera.
Their motto is Take the next step toward your personal and professional goals with Coursera.
Coursera is one of the best and most prestigious online education platforms organized by the University of California where students from almost every country participate. At the end of each course, they provide a certificate. Here is the certificate that I apply with the name of Saima Nehrin.

One more thing is, I took demo class in a college which is also a part of the development of my skill of teaching.

At present, higher education is very expensive. What is your opinion on this, or is there any alternative to it?

In the context of Bangladesh, higher education is expensive but there are also some alternativwaysay to complete your higher education. My Opinion on higher education and its expenses in Bangladesh

  • First, Universitiesinf in our country provide 50% weaver to poor students.

  • Universities give 100%tuitionn free opportunities to talented students or toppersers.

  • Government give 100% scholarship to many students

  • Government rewarded sholar and poor students with their all educational expenses.

  • Some private banks start giving education loans which is impressive.

  • Personally many people are helping students by providing their educational expenses.

So if you want to pursue higher education then you must have the desire and interest. And if you are in a financial crisis, if you report it to the appropriate authorities, I hope you will overcome all obstacles and see the light. Education is the backbone of the nation. Everyone is ready to cheer and help strengthen that backbone.

A very good entry from you. You remember my grandmother memory because she never goes to school. When her age was 70 plus. He want to learn Arabic, Bangla writing also. So she onday called me and told me to teach her. So I started to teaching her. Really I feel proud that time and I have respect for her. She is also happy on me. Today you reminded her. Education really has no age limit. Best of luck for the contest.

I like your sincerity on this topic, yes it is of a truth that there are people out there who does teaching job as part of humanitarian services. They do not collect money for that service and you are one among them.

You have also note down some points in making your environment conducive for teaching processes to take place. You also stressed on talking to the students calming. This charisma will help the students get free with you and make their heart open for teaching to take place.

You have done brilliantly. Goodluck to you dear friend.

Thank you so much for your words. I believe that, the environment affects your personal life, professional life. So we should be concern about it. Pray for me.

How interesting you have two students each with their own challenges, of course the age difference is a factor to take into account, adult education (andragogy) has its techniques and strategies, which apparently you managed to handle. It's good that you enjoy teaching.

In the case of the child you were also a student because you managed to learn a little Japanese.

I hope you can continue teaching and helping others. A clean environment without distractions is important as you mention, language and respect.

I am really glad if one of your students is 40. Education never discriminates against age. I think you are doing a great job of imparting proper education to your students. Apart from professional teachers, students can be taught, wishing them well.
